Publisher's summary

Brody is a soldier who misses the excitement of the military and its missions. He retired to work as clan beta in Kodiak Point. Talk about boring, until he's captured by a foreign enemy.

Him, a prisoner? Not for long. This wolf will do anything in order to get away - even if it involves seduction. The first step in plotting his escape: pretend interest in a woman. But Layla isn't just any woman. She's special. Not human. Not shifter. He doesn't know what this exotic lady is, other than his.

A prisoner for years, Layla isn't sure what to make of the enemy who shares a cell with her. He promises her hope, but that would involve trust. Despite her doubts, she can't help but be drawn to him.

Working together, can Brody and Layla escape the clutches of the enemy? And do they dare fall in love?

Have read and listened

I have read this book in the past and liked it, was glad it’s part of the “audible escape” package so I can listen to it. I like to listen to books I read previously while I do other things, it’s a great listen but since I read before, I don’t have to hear every word. Get it❤️. It’s better if you follow the series

Let this listen capture your heart

This this a great story full of love ; excitement and trying to make things work . It had it all .
Hero is Brody Heroine is Layla . Eve again wrote a winner. Love how her mind works. She knows how to draw the listener in .
Layla has had a tough life always being sold she escapes and then the cycle starts again. Layla is wondering how when she escapes she won’t get caught again

Brody is at Kodiak point . He is a Wolf shifter . Brody is getting bored at Kodiak point , until that is when he meets Layla . That is when things heat up between both of them in more ways then one . They heat up the world around them

The narrator was great. Loved how she did the character voices

Fun, but needed sound effects

“Barely brighter than a monkey, my Azz!”
If Mason Lloyd had narrated this, I think this could have been five stars across the board. This book had so many noises just begging for a narrator who could howl and growl, or act out the jolt a person feels when hit with an electric shock. Unfortunately, aside from a lackluster wolf howl, the narrator merely says words like ‘sizzle’ and ‘rawr’ in a dull monotone.

“I think I’m going to call you Thud.”
Hmm, maybe even scripted audio is needed here, with the sound effects of the shock collar zapping and then Brody’s body hitting the floor each time he gets zapped. Yes, better narration would have helped sell the humor which balances the prisoner plot.

“Umm, Johnson is not too crazy about you referring to him as floppy.”
The story itself was great, with Layla the never-surrender prisoner perpetually seeking escape and Brody I-laugh-in-the-face-of-danger getting perpetually shocked (especially when he ignores her warnings).
I also enjoyed spending a bit more time with some of the shifters from the previous books as they mercilessly rib each other. The naughty bits were frisky without going overboard. These a great popcorn romances with minimum angst and maximum camp.

Don't do it

Omg, don't waste your credit. This was a horrible book. The narrator was whinny and just bad. So, no, no,.
