About this listen

From New York Times best-seller and science-fiction and fantasy mistress of adventure Mercedes Lackey, together with a team of topnotch collaborators, comes Book Two in The Secret World Chronicle, a pulse-pounding saga of superpowers - and the very human men and women who must learn to wield them without losing themselves in the process.

After an Earth-scarring apocalyptic battle, the meta-humans have turned back a massive invasion of super-science powered Nazi war machines - and have at least driven whoever is in ultimate control of them to pause and regroup. Now meta-hero organizations Echo and sometime Russian ally CCCP must go on the offense and battle back. Task one: to hunt down the secret puppet masters behind the Nazi robot invasion, the Thule Society. To do so, the heroes of Echo, led by Bulwark and Red Djinni, face the guardians of a hidden trove of Nazi armor. Meanwhile, a sadistic genius super villain arises who is determined to defeat both heroes and Thulians alike - a villain who just may have the wealth and cunning to pull it off. It’s “go time” once again for the meta-heroes, including fire-bender John Murdock, techno-witch Vicki Nagy, healer Belladona Blue, super-quick Mercurye, chameleon Red Djinni - and for their ghostly ally, The Seraphym. Somehow, they must unite in the fight against the evil and slavery that is fast descending upon the entire universe!

EXCELLENT!

I truly enjoyed this book; it’s so well written that I really don’t know what’s going to happen next. The battle action & violence does pick up as the Thulians and other foes push their own agendas. Plus it catches up on old friends & foes, as well as introduces new characters.

WOW

Would you consider the audio edition of World Divided to be better than the print version?

Have not read the print version...

What other book might you compare World Divided to and why?

Hard to compare it considering how it is constructed, but I loved it.

Have you listened to any of Nick Sullivan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The first book in the series, he is consistent and does a GREAT job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Very heroic feeling, joy, sadness and every button in between.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes comic's and super heros, this was amazing, well done, and well thought out.

Now I'm hooked

Where does World Divided rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is probably in my top 25 ever, but I'm doing about 3 -5 books right now and it is my go to at the moment. I bought the 1st book in the series on a whim, but needed to find this book as soon as I was finished with the 1st.

What did you like best about this story?

I think the person reading the audiobook is doing a fantastic job.

Which scene was your favorite?

Since I'm not done with the book yet need to hold off on this question.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There are parts that are moving, and yes the book does make me laugh.

One of the worst I've listen to

What was most disappointing about the authors’s story?

I listen to the first one so long ago that I didn't remember what was going on. After 8+ hours in book two I still don't know what this book was about. The accents drove me nuts and I soon began to dreaded listening to the book. I tried but I can't listen to this crap any more.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The Russian accents

All action no story

Enjoyed the 1st book. This the 2nd book was just a series of poor excuses for poorly done and repetitive action scenes. Frankly it's lost it's way, big time. Less than likely to bother with subsequent novels in the series.

Reads like a Comic Book, some interest' characters

Is there anything you would change about this book?

A lot of action, with some very interesting characters. Cursing could be done away with and still retain "flavor" of character. Reads more like a comic book, but there is some interesting byplay that keeps you coming back (esp. Seraphim and John interaction). Needs more realism - can't explain any better.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Seems to be Action, Character development, Action, New twist, Action, Character development, new plot, Action, Action,... Needs something "deeper". Although there are really stunning characters, because of the way the characters are developed, they seem to be comic book with some interesting twists. Characters march across the "screen" displaying all kinds of traits that are not explained until much later. Seems more characterization is needed before they are brought to the forefront of the action, kept there for ages, then finally, some of the "quirks" are explained. If the reader could "empathize" with the characters sooner, it would make the books more enjoyable. Don't put undeveloped characters in the forefront for long periods of time without developing the character first. There may be some "hidden things", but it seems all the characters drive across the page, all with these hidden motivations. The brightest character (pun intended) for me is the Seraphim. She is developing / revealing nicely. John is starting to come along and keeps me interested.

What about Nick Sullivan’s performance did you like?

Feel Nick Sullivan's performance is outstanding with the plethora of characters he has to represent. Some of the Russian characters seem to sound the same, but what can you do with no explanation of how they should sound (except for Vicky).

Any additional comments?

This is a good series, but better characterization (without cursing) and plot development would greatly enhance the series. Too much emphasis on Action without plot development.
