About this listen

Is it possible to overcome a lifetime of barriers and finally take a chance on love?

Jamie Callahan handles her job as an investment analyst, her distant relationship with her niece, and her romantic liaisons with a cool head and unaffected heart. Until she meets Kate Brown, a woman who threatens to push aside Jamie's protective defenses and uncover the emotions hiding underneath.

Kate has a mask for every occasion. She wears them to please her parents, to move ahead in her career, to fit in the right social circles. She meets with Jamie because she needs funding for an Olympic-caliber horse, but instead she finds someone who sees beyond the image Kate projects and brings out her true desires.

From the boardroom to the show ring in Portland, Oregon, Jamie and Kate routinely face uncertainty and challenge in their careers, but never in romance. As their growing attraction threatens to expose vulnerabilities both try to hide, they must decide if the stakes are too high or if love is worth the risk.

Nice story

I liked the story. It was well developed, neither too fast or too slow.
The narrator was fine.

Worth The Risk

I dont know why I enjoyed the book better than the audio book. The reading was mellow and there wasn't any change between men's voices and women's. However overall I would say it was a good story and a believable one!

I enjoyed the story

I think was a bit quick but like most of these type of books the romance is quick to the L word. Take that out and I thought was a good story.

nice story, reader only slightly distracting

the story is fun. the characters are well defined. its a decent short book, i was actually left wanting more story. i wanted them to continue on and resolge some of the greater battles that lay in their future together. the reading was good. i think once the reader has more practice making the sentences flow it will not sound so much like she is reading an essay. it got less distracting as the story progressed.

Good story, decent narration

When I listen to an audible book narration is part of the total experience. it's difficult to be from the place a book is set in and have places mispronounced. It's weird to have a southern accent spoken about several times and yet it never appears. But generally well handled

The book is fun as it covers new ground beyond cops and medical personnel. I liked the characters. They came with rich personalities and interesting pasts.

Great story ruined

I bought this a while ago and just got around to listening to it. I have read the book version and rather enjoyed it. So it seemed logical that I would like the narrated one. And the audios from Amazon that I had listened to were all good..... until this one. I could only last an hour in before my will was broken and it was either stop the audio or risk throwing my device. The narrator tone is basically a dull accented mondrone that is hard to stomach. Worse she uses that tone for like 90% of what I heard. The main characters are tolerantly different and have some inflection to them.... except sometimes she falls into a monodrone hybrid part way through from a charrie voice. Main secondary charries tend to be rather indistinguishable. And secondary charries of lower rank are damn near identical even if they are repeaters. Made the romance as exciting as listing to a rather dull monodrone part of a manual. Am going to avoid the narrator and advise you to do the same. Do however buy the book. It is very much worth reading.
