When hate becomes obsession....

Mistaken for her beautiful half-sister, Ellen Winthorp is taken captive by a madman who declares that she will be his "15": The 15th victim of a vicious mafia blood feud. Armed with only her instincts, Ellen must resist her captor for as long as she can - which is easier said than done the more she's exposed to the complex man beneath the beast. Because Mischa Stepanov isn’t a mindless monster - he’s a wolf, and she’s the unwitting doe caught in his midst.

Unraveling the torment of his past may be her only hope of salvation....

Or the secrets uncovered may destroy them both.

This is a dark romance.

XV: Fifteen War of Roses Book 1 by Lana Sky

Ellen Winthrop has always grown up in the background in her home. Her sister Briar preferred the attention and material things. As sisters, Ellen is pretty, but Briar has always been considered beautiful.

Mischa Stepanov has been locked in a mafia blood feud with the Winthrop family for years. Each side taking a victim and now it’s his turn and he will mark them as XV.

When Ellen was a child a boy with a knife broke into her room but instead of hurting her, he makes her get under her bed. He tells her, “Don’t think, don’t move, just breathe.” That becomes Ellen’s mantra through her life and helps to keep her sane. As a child, Ellen had been afraid of monsters but what happens when there is something or someone scarier? The monsters are real, and they have come for her. Mischa decided to kidnap Briar Winthrop as the next victim of the blood feud but instead mistook Ellen for her. When he realizes his error, he questions her. With the mantra being repeated in her head to Breathe, she keeps quiet until he changes tactics. Ellen is used to pain and head games the monsters at home deal out and she can endure her pain in silence. Mischa will use any means necessary to get what he wants whether it’s his fists or a knife.

Listening to Caitlin Allgood Knight narrate this book you feel as if you are in the same room with these two characters. I held my breath for most of the first few chapters. I have fallen in love with audible books and I am wondering why I waited until now to try them.

I loved this beautiful book so much! Lana Sky has such a way with words, and it floors me that each book is even better than the last. This book hooks you from the very first page and takes you on a high-speed ride that never lets you go until the final page. I kept thinking that the next chapter I will stop for the night but then it was another plot twist and I couldn’t put it down. Both Ellen and Mischa have had tragic past that shaped them, but they are incredibly similar. So many things connect them, but they have no idea until the layers start to show themselves. I await with bated breath until the next book in this series.

Dark, Gritty, And Intense

This is a an extremely dark and intense story. It gas so much drama with a mystery involved in it. It is a story that is deeply addictive that you just can't let go. You must find out the who, the what, and the where. It makes you feel everything that our characters are going through. The descriptions are extremely vivid. Caitlin Allgood Knight narrates the story beautifully. The only complaint I would have is sometimes the accent was so thick it made words hard to understand. Yes, that does add a very realistic element to the story but I would also want to hear the words. Otherwise, when the accent wasn't that extremely thick she was clear and precise. I am extremely excited to see how the story continues.

Stunning & Addictive!

This is a book that will totally slay you. The intense story stuns you and pulls you into a dark world that will leave you emotionally raw and gasping for breath with each powerful twist and turn. The characters are complex, the situation complicated and the tension nail-biting. As Ellen and Mischa's story unfolds you realize that what may have been planned as a simple hunter and prey situation is actually shaping up into an epic battle of wills. As this is only book one, prepare for the cliffhanger and the desperate need for more that it will leave you with. I felt that the narration on this book was spot on perfect. I had previously read this via the ebook format and I will be honest and say that I did not anticipate the narration of having that much of an effect on my enjoyment, as I already knew that this was a great read. However, the audiobook version simply blew me away! The gritty rawness of emotions, the dark brutality and the agonising pain of this story are brought to a whole new level by the incredible performance of Ms. Knight.

The narrators voice is a bit....

The narrators voice is annoying! She continuously sounds like she needs to ckear her throat and that is a HUMONGOUS pet peeve of mine and most people.
So far as for this book it's extremely dark but I love dark.
With that said the stort is kinda well I guess not well put together.
it feels like things happen really quick and not very much is explained and they don't talk about who the guy is and where he is from what he looks like etc.
These are important details that seriously matter.
The girl is sad pathetic and needs some major psychological help.
I haveva cery hard time feeling bad for girls/women who are that pathetically weak whi pitty themselves and have no back bone. They would rather act liek they would.prefer to die than deal. UGH!

Captivating first book in this dark, twisted series.

Let me start by saying that the narrator for this book is a perfect choice. Her voice is captivating and easy to listen to as she takes you on this dark, twisted ride.

Ellen Winthorp gets taken because she is mistaken for her half-sister, Briar. But the madman named Mischa that takes her quickly realizes she's not, but is determined to find out who she is and what she knows of his enemies. This is a twisted, sordid tale that is just beginning in this first book in this dark series. This book ends on a cliffhanger and the story continues in book two, VII : Seven. I'm looking forward to the rest of Ellen and Mischa's story. Note: This book does contain content that may be triggering for some readers/listeners.

Ready for the Next

The War of Roses trilogy is one of my all-time favorites. I love the twisted story of Ellen and how her life becomes co-mingled with crazy as all get out Mischa.

The narrator is captivating, doing a really good job conveying each of the complex characters. I'm looking forward to listening to the next two books.
