About this listen

They say you should love thy neighbor, but I don't think they meant it the way I want to love mine.

Miles "Rooster" Johnson

As a young single dad with a teaching job, I haven't had much opportunity to date. My son is my entire world, and though I would love to have a partner and someone to count on, the passing years have shown that it's just not in the cards for me. So when the gorgeous lumberjack of a man—the same man that I've had a massive crush on since the moment we became neighbors—suddenly asks me out on a date, I'm completely blindsided. Trent could have anyone he wants. He's charming, flirtatious, and outgoing—the exact opposite of my awkward, anxious self. I don't know what he sees in me. All I know for sure is that I absolutely need to make this date go well.

Trent Montgomery

I know I have a playboy reputation in our small town, but there's nothing wrong with playing the field. It's worked for me so far, even if I have felt some discontent lately. My mama thinks I need to settle down and find someone nice. But she doesn't understand that I'm just not ready. No matter how beautiful and tempting my neighbor Rooster is or how eager I am to get the silent mountain of a man to open up—no matter how adorable his little boy is, even when he's threatening me at bat-point to take his daddy out on a date—I know I can't be everything that they need. I agreed to ask Rooster out, but I think maybe I made a big mistake. All I know for sure is that I absolutely need to sabotage this date.

You Can Count On Me is a standalone slow-burn holiday MM romance with high heat, an HEA, and no cliffhangers. With a blossoming friends-to-lovers romance between a single father and his adorably flirty neighbor, together these two are warm, young, and tooth-achingly sweet. If you like funny stories with too many dad jokes, holiday magic, positive mental health rep, primal play, graphic steam, and the slowest, sweetest of all burns, then listen on!

I enjoyed it, but...

… this story could have been told about 2 hours shorter. The character development was good, but the book was waaay too long. The narrators did a fantastic job. I really enjoyed it.

Love the Series, Too Wordy

Worth the listen. The extensive internal monologues were irritating for me at times. I am do love this holiday series and I recommend them. Miles and Bubba are enduring and you just want to hug Trent.
I am ready for Ben and Robin’s story because I am sure they are the third installment.

A wonderful Christmas love story with great narration

I’m usually a reader of MM action, high angst, trauma books but this one stole my heart without any of that! It’s is a sweet hurt/comfort friends/lovers journey to love that includes a precious matchmaking boy, a dog, a pet chicken and family (both biological and found.

Broken pieces fit perfectly.

These two were broken in different yet similar ways and that allowed them to be perfect for each other. The playboy and the softboi were both just looking for love and running from it at the same time. Watching them finally run to each was so much fun. Of course Bubba steals the show.

Feel-good holiday romance, with kink

What did I read about this? The slowest of slow burns? Yeah. It is. Also well worth the wait. The first couple spicy scenes are intense, worshipful, reverent. So hot. 🥵
The love story is sweet. The characters beautifully flawed. The whole book is a relaxed feel good holiday experience.

There were a few chapters I’d probably edit out for the sake of keeping things moving along. I understand why they’re in the book, but I think the characters’ growth could be shown without the long emotional scenes.

In spite of that, this was an enjoyable listen that I will revisit in the future. I am so impressed with Stephen Dexter’s narration.

Hallmark story with high spice!

These Christmas Daddies books are so good. Such a sweet story. You feel like you are listening to a hallmark movie. Then the spice hits you right in the face! Sooo good. The narrators were great, loved the duel narration.

I love a good nickname!

And Miles has a good one (Rooster) despite the fact that he doesn't care for it. Poor baby, I loved him the moment he appeared in this book. Full of nerves and all. And his son, Bubba (classic southern nickname) was a little meddling upstart, whose heart was in the right place. Exposure therapy, lol, smart kid. And Trent just ended up being the lucky guy who got to love them and call them family. I loved this.

Awe 🫢 How Steamy!

I think my favorite part is the kid who is doing everything he can to bring these two together! That is so stinking cute!
