About this listen

INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

In this funny and honest feel-good memoir, social media star Kacie Rose offers a refreshingly honest take on navigating a new life abroad.

In 2021, Kacie decided to leave her life as a pro dancer in New York City and move to Italy–and she never looked back. Okay, that isn't strictly true… In You Deserve Good Gelato, Kacie reflects on everything from travel fails and homesickness to the joy of culture shocks and the power of doing the s*** that scares you. Because life is too short not to.

In this joyful memoir, you will find:

  • Personal essays that tell Kacie’s story and empower you to challenge yourself
  • A candid outlook on life as an expat, covering everything from the terror of driving on Italian roads to the trials of speaking a new language and the genuine beauty of a slower pace of life
  • Inspirational quotes that encourage you to step out of your comfort zone

By sharing her personal stories of life under the Tuscan sun, Kacie explains how travel is a privilege, why cultural differences are the coolest things in the world, and how there's a positive you can take away from literally any situation. You Deserve Good Gelato will have you taking the leap and embracing this big beautiful world that we call home.

Kacie Rose is a travel content creator living in Florence, Italy. After a life-changing solo trip and her own little "under the Tuscan sun moment," she made the official move to Italy in January 2021. Through positivity, authenticity, and humour, she began sharing culture shocks, travel tips, and life abroad across her social media, where her following quickly grew to a community of over 1.5 million people.

From explaining why you won't find "pepperoni pizza" and "lattes" in Italy, to sharing how to order a coffee, figure out the train system, and find authentic gelato, Kacie's goal is to encourage and help her community travel abroad by showing them the beauty of cultural differences, all the while reminding them that they are strong, deserving, and so much more capable than they think they are.

Dear Listener,

What's the one lesson I hope you walk away with from this audiobook?
"In 2021, I picked up my life in NYC and moved to Italy after embarking on a life-changing solo trip to the land of spritz and pizza a few years earlier. I quickly acquired a vast collection of lessons learned from my experiences while traveling and living abroad that only grew in numbers over the years that followed—funny stories, not-so-funny stories, small wins, embarrassing mistakes, spectacular triumphs, and epic failures. Eventually, when it became too difficult to create videos on social media for all of the topics that I felt were important to shed light on and discuss, the seed for You Deserve Good Gelato was planted, and I began to write.
I wanted to create a book about travel, the importance of seeing the world, and the infinite lessons that come from doing so, but more than that, I wanted to create a book of empowerment—of reminding you that you are so much more capable than you think. Ultimately, I hope that You Deserve Good Gelato reminds you that the most epic things come from doing the sh*t that scares you—and that you totally deserve those things."– Kacie Rose, writer of You Deserve Good Gelato

One of the best books I've listened to

I have been following Kacie basically since she started her social media, so I might be a bit biased in this review. But I loved it. I had a very similar experience living in Italy during covid, so it was healing to hear her story. She also gives a candid view on cultural differences between the US and Italy. Listening to this book made me want to return to Italy even more.

Inspiring and Motivating!

This is by far one of my favorite books, and as a therapist, will be one of my books I recommend to clients. I subscribe to Kacie on YouTube, and was so excited for her book to come out. Each chapter was inspiring and motivating. I loved it!

American Optimism at Its Best

Kacie encourages her readers to take a chance on something new, to be brave by telling her own story that starts with a solo trip to Italy. She is beautiful, and bright, inside and out.

Loved the realness

I know what she is trying to achieve is to not be afraid of doing new things… to take risks…. I honestly just Reinforced the belief that we should all travel outside the USA and learn and embrace other cultures to learn and grow as people and stop being so oblivious thinking that the USA is the center of the world

Ode to the Beauty of All Things Italian

Having just gotten back to the U.S. after a week long trip to Italy (which ended with guilt-free morning breakfast gelato on the last day) this book affirmed all of the reasons why I want to go back for another visit! I appreciated the honest reflections about the challenges faced in an unfamiliar place and the encouragement that Kacie provides to “Do the stuff that scares you”. I found myself smiling throughout listening to her story as if she were sitting at my table, sharing a Spritz and telling me about her life.

Feel good read!

It started strong and ended strong, and a few points along the way I liked. A few times it felt repetitive, but overall there is good advice and good points made for getting out of your comfort zone! Would recommend:)

Love how vulnerable she is about her journey

I’ve been following on instagram and she is the best. Her stories and information I believe will help me on my upcoming trip to Italy. Cheers to doing the things that scare you!
