About this listen

Inside your head sits the most complex object in the known universe - the human brain. This amazing organ has unique powers to make predictions about the future, form relationships with other people, adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, and so much more. We all have a basic conception of how our brains function, but when did you last dive into the fascinating world of neuroscience to truly understand the inner workings of your mind?

For decades, the field of neuroscience has been in a near-constant state of disruptive transformation, as we continually learn more about our incredible brains. Thanks to rapid advances in technology and in our understanding of the brain, today’s neuroscience research goes far beyond trying to understand how the brain works, and into the search for proven ways to optimize brain performance. In Your Best Brain, Professor John J. Medina - an award-winning scientist, New York Times best-selling author, and leading advocate for brain research - delivers 24 exciting lectures that probe the origins of consciousness, memory, emotion, attention, intelligence, and beyond. He focuses on five key areas of study in neuroscience: the brain’s physical structure and function, and how it enabled us to become the planet’s apex predator; the ways in which the brain processes information, and how that relates to intelligence; the intricacies of emotions and socialization, and how empathy is a vital survival mechanism; how our brains develop and change throughout our lifetimes; and how we can best use and expand our cerebral processing performance. After gaining a thorough understanding of the science behind your best brain, you’ll learn scientifically proven methods for improving your memory, boosting your creativity, and keeping your mind sharp for years to come.

Great book, great style of reading.

Thanks for revealing what the Ancient Greeks had hints of with modern scientific studies. Very bold with facts presented by the author & reader. Science should be reported as science not to be reported based on political correctness. Great work.

Very nice overview of brain for laymen

Hi, So I have a background in physics and chemistry but my background to life sciences is limited to a few genteel biology classes at college. I found this course to be very informative and interesting. it gives a pretty good overview of human brain from perception of senses to thoughts, memories and emotions. It is also presented very nicely and contains a bunch of jokes and anecdots to keep you entertained while you listen to 24 long chapters. Its pretty good and I recommend it.

An excellent tour of your brain

Medina delivers an unwavering upbeat performance as he combines research, anecdote, and personal experience into knowledge that sticks. The course is carefully crafted to break down complicated areas of brain research into a digestible format that translates well into audio.

Medina's passion for his subject and his upbeat and goofy delivery help to propel the course and keep it from getting too bogged down in jargon. In addition, Medina provides helpful tools for visualization for those who are only listening.

I walked away with a great overview of current brain research along with many practical applications for daily life. I would recommend this course for anybody with half a brain.

Nicely done

Nicely done. Well organized, suggesting adequate executive functioning. Kind of long... but a perfect loyal companion on the long ride from Minneapolis to Indianapolis and back. Better road caffeine than blue light.

Learned a lot! Lively narration.

John Medina did a great job narrating this book which made it never boring, contrary to what you'd normally expect from a lecture series.

Lots of stuff which you could learn to make the most out of your brain.

I also loved how John scattered stories and samples all throughout each lecture. This made the book easy to listen.

I rated the performance 4 stars since they could've done a better job at editing John's stuttering or mistakes.

A recommended read for people curious about how our brain works.
