Story
Urban legends are thought by most to be tall tales passed down through the ages. Some of the stories are obviously make believe, while others, as strange as they may seem, have their origins in actual events. Do alligators roam the dark tunnels deep beneath New York City? Do boogeymen who terrorize those afraid of the night really exist? Are killer clowns a myth born from our fear of the unknown or could such evil truly walk among us? These are just a few of the urban legends that are explored in this book.

For four aging men in the terror-stricken town of Milburn, New York, an act inadvertently carried out in their youth has come back to haunt them. Now they are about to learn what happens to those who believe they can bury the past - and get away with murder. Peter Straub's classic best seller is a work of "superb horror" ( Washington Post Book World) that, like any good ghost story, stands the test of time - and conjures our darkest fears and nightmares.

Daniel Martin has never forgotten his childhood encounters with Frank Watkins, the man who built his family a summer home out of cardboard and plywood. Frank's gaze was oddly confusing, as if he was attempting to discern the proper way to behave because he didn't know how to respond in a human manner. Since Frank obviously wasn't an alien, young Daniel thought maybe the man was crazy. In the end, Daniel would learn the terrifying truth about Frank Watkins. And as an adult, Daniel is about to discover there are more of them out there.

Story
Michael Hainey had just turned six when his uncle knocked on his family's back door one morning with the tragic news: Bob Hainey, Michael's father, was found alone near his car on Chicago's North Side, dead, of an apparent heart attack. Thirty-five years old, a young assistant copy desk chief at the Chicago Sun-Times, Bob was a bright and shining star in the competitive, hard-living world of newspapers, one that involved booze-soaked nights that bled into dawn. And then suddenly he was gone.

Aunt Charlotte, otherwise a woman of few words, points out a ruined cottage, telling Marcus she had visited it regularly after she'd moved there 30 years ago because it matched the ruin of her own life.

Great idea...paranormal meets blogging
The idea was wonderful and unique. A book collecting the stories of paranormal experiences people have had. However the delivery fell short. This is not the authors fault. He diligently delivers the tales of the paranormal that people have placed on the website. The problem lies in that 90% of the people telling their stories can't write very well. The narrator lent what life could be given to the tales. These perhaps would have been better had they been interviews and the stories could have thereby been drawn out longer, embellished and given some back ground. There were some stories I would have liked to know more about. Location of these haunted houses and areas and the history of the people experiencing them. I hope that future releases could be a little bit deeper than this was. It was worth a listen but will leave you wanting more. Compelling ... makes you question the afterlife/
Would you consider the audio edition of Your Haunted Lives to be better than the print version?
I've not read the print version therefore I am unable to compare the two.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
To me the most compelling part was the many ways people claim to be contacted by loved ones that have passed on.
What does Darren Marlar bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Darren Marlar was very engaging and enthusiastic. I felt as if he personally experienced each different story. He has the ability to bring your own imagination to life.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There was no one moment in the book that particularly moved me. I felt the entire book moved me and made me question the afterlife.

Decent Collection of True Short Stories...
I love the narrator's forward about how most scary movies did not scare him, and he preferred to read scary stories instead. I'm pretty much the opposite, I don't like to read or watch anything scary. However, I do love to hear about true paranormal events, which is why I was interested in listening to this audiobook which contains a collection of individual's personal experiences with the unexplained.
These stories reminded me of sitting around with family and friends, and telling each other about all the creepy, and bizarre things that have happened to us or someone we know. I really believe, most of us at some point in our lives, will encounter a moment when something happens and there's no logical explanation. Years ago, my husband, and I certainly had one of those experiences, and it still gives me chills when we talk about it. While these stories really were not that scary, I liked that they reminded me of all the weird things others, and myself have encountered, and it gave me chills all over again.
While some of the stories were really short, I enjoyed hearing about others encounters and gave this book an overall four stars.
Darren Marler did a great job retelling each individual story.

Your Haunted Lives
“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”
These are tales of people's encounters with the super-natural. I didn't find anything too scary about any of them, but maybe that's just me!
The narration was well done.

Decent Collection
These appear to be true stories of the paranormal compiled by the author. Some are just one sentence and others are more fleshed out. None are stories with very much detail or description added. Just straightforward here's what I was doing and here's what happened. Despite this, they are still intriguing to listen to.
The narration was good and did not distract from listening to the tales. I listened on 1.5 speed.
