Publisher's summary

Owen Christiansen has been in a downward spiral since an injury ended his NHL career. But a job on an Alaskan crabbing boat offers a fresh start and maybe even a shot at romance with Elise "Scotty" McFlynn, the captain's daughter.

Used to being one of the guys, to never relying on anyone, Scotty doesn't believe in happily ever after - especially with someone like Owen. Her instinct is confirmed when Casper Christiansen arrives to drag his prodigal brother home, bringing with him a truckload of family drama - and, even worse, the news that Casper is wanted for questioning in connection to a crime back in Minnesota. But Owen is more than the sum of his mistakes, a truth both he and Scotty discover when she escorts both brothers to Deep Haven as part of her new job on the Anchorage police force. Thrust into an unfamiliar world of family, faith, and fresh starts, Scotty begins to see potential for a happy ending if she's brave enough to embrace it.

Critic reviews

"Warren has shaped a beautifully dynamic romance that teaches the value of family and forgiveness through a modern-day prodigal-son story of redemption." ( Publishers Weekly)

Great HEA for the Christiansen family

I was sad that it ended. I vote for a sequel where all the grandkids have grown up.

Adventure! Imperfect people, Family, Faith & Love!

Adventure, Imperfect people, Family, Faith & Love! Hang on to your spot, this is going to be an adventurous family, love filled ride. What's going to happen next? Who's going to survive? Who's not? Susan May Warren does it again and again with the Christiansen family stories. You will not be able to put this down. I bought and read the book last year. Then I had to reread it, so I also got it on Audible. It's so good you really want to read or hear it again, and again.

A Christiansen Family Series Marathon

I listened to this entire series this week. A real family experience. God meeting each person individually and drawing them to him with problems, anger issues, adventures, and self imposed reasons not to let God in. Our plans versus Gods plans and Faith to bring them to pass The stories and narrators completely drew me in. I didn't want there to be an ending. Take a leap and see God move in this big rambunctious family. You will be glad you did!

Great series! More please!

This was a riveting, well done book! I’m sad this is the last book.

I’m surprised how much I enjoyed each and every book in the series.

I’m hoping for more in the series somehow.

Prodigal Son with a Twist

I loved how this story found redemption for Owen. He finally was able to stop blaming everyone for his issues. The one thing that always bothered me about Owen was he blamed Max for his injury. He never stated that Max was only trying to help him get out of the fight Owen started when the accident happened. When it was important, Owen was able to recall all he had been taught to help him know God was still with him. It is so good that God looks at our whole life and not just incidents.

I am sorry to see this series end. Susan's stories gives us the Christian view without being preachy.

********The only thing that needs to be changed is the picture on the cover. Owen was stated to be blonde. Publishers please read the book and may sure the characters are correct.******

Final Book in the Christiansen Family Series

Overall, I enjoyed this series. There were a few issues that I felt dragged down the plot. For me the biggest distraction was that the editor should have picked up on the multiple words and phrases that were very repetitive throughout the series. If I hear the word "epic" one more time, I will probably run screaming from the room! Several of the characters felt that God didn't like them. That was odd considering that the siblings came from an intact Christian family that surrounded their kids with love and grace. The narrator had a difficult time keeping up with each character's accent, in several of the books. I will compliment Joell A. Jacob on the range of accents she used in each book and I am sure that it must have been difficult to be able to provide the right accent with each character. While these things were a distraction, they did not impede my appreciation for the stories that were told in the six book series. I have read other series from Susan May Warren and enjoyed them as well.

Christian struggles

Most christian stories are similar. A sinner coming to Christ for the first time and everything is ok. This series showcases the struggles after following Christ. I love how it show that we constantly need God. Even after coming to Christ.

Only thing I wished was pointed out is the scripture about a man marrying the woman he impregnated. The Bible says, a man should marry but if he doesn’t want to then he can just pay something. It’s man’s doctrine that a man HAS to marry the woman he impregnated.
