Critic reviews

"George Romero...should snap up the rights to this novel. It has everything: zombies, gore, brain-eating, love, death, even a murder mystery...Kenemore combines humor with horror in a way that is guaranteed to make any zombie fan stand up and shout, Braaaaaains!" ( Booklist)

Humorous listen

A thinking zombie! This is great! I can't lay down too much about my listen to many spoilers. Just know it's a good listen, worth your time, and you will enjoy it.

I went into this book really wanting to like it

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No really. The story is kind of original but I was expecting a zombie mystery story and what I got was a cheesy zombie story with just a smattering of mystery thrown in just to satisfy the book's description. The narrater was really annoying and I highly doubt I'll ever listen to another book that he reads. This is one of those books that is written to be voiced by Sean Runnette. If it had been read as smart-assy or even dark in points I would have found it more enjoyable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I guess the main character, the zombie.....what's his name. Yea, it was that memorable.

What didn’t you like about Danny Campbell’s performance?

He read it like it was this grand adventure to be a zombie and that it was kind of fun & exciting....even in parts that should have been read more scary or suspenseful.

Was Zombie, Ohio worth the listening time?

not really....i feel like I kind of wasted a credit. It's like when you're a zombie fan (and I am one) and you watch a crappy zombie movie. You watched it and you're sort of glad that you got it out of your system but damn was that a sucky zombie movie with really bad make-up effects. That's how I feel about this book.

Any additional comments?

I don't really blame Scott Kenemore for how bad this book was. I sort of blame the narrator....he was really miss-matched to this story. Sure, Mr. Kenemore wrote some really cheesy lines like, "Hey, look at me...I'm a zombie.....ARRRGGGGGGG". Really, that's what a zombie would say?

Fun stuff!

I've read alot of zombie books, but there are few that come from the point of view of the undead menace. Among these, i reckon Zombie, Ohio is the best. The main character is believable, funny and smart. You know, for a zombie. His trials and wanderings as he continues to live long past he should are entertaining and actually got quite a few laughs out of me. There are bits of the book that while a little silly are precisely spot on for how so many people would handle the zombie apocalypse, as shown in recent times with many other societal upheavals .

The narrator is perfect for the type of character the protagonist is, and he does a good job with all the other voices. He has a few odd times where he mispronounces words, the weirdest among them being "cats". It's not even an accent thing, just him saying a very common word extremely wrong. Very odd.

I recommend the book quite highly.

This was an interesting change of perspective.

I like the concept of imagining what it might be like from the zombie perspective.

Phenomenal

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I already have, multiple times. I don't generally like people's attempts to write stories from the zombie's perspective, but this was awesome, thought provoking, funny and occasionally shocking.
