• Hope in the Darkness: Trusting God’s Presence When Life Feels Heavy with Dustin George
    Dec 18 2024

    Send us a text

I am completely blown away that this is the last episode of Season 5 of the Confidence in Christ Podcast!! God has been so faithful!

We are ending season 5 and 2024 with a wonderful send off. I was able to chat with Dustin George about his new book, Before Dawn: Knowing God's Presence in the Dark Seasons of Life. I have to say... what a timely message. I feel like winter brings about a bigger chance for depression, anxiety & sadness just because of the drab weather (at least in my neck of the woods). Plus... the holidays aren't always joy filled & happy for all of us. I know this all too well.

One of the biggest ah-ha's for me during this conversation was when Dustin talked about how God has never failed. That isn't anything new to me but when we are in grief we add the word 'me' to the end of that statement... God has never failed me. But when we stop and look over all of history we see that God hasn't only never failed US personally... he has never failed ever! And he never will! That alone gives us hope in the midst of the trials and hard seasons.

Dustin C. George is a lead pastor, a writer, and a conference speaker. He has served for nearly two decades in various pastoral positions across all age ranges. Before entering full time church ministry, Dustin taught high school English for ten years. In his free time, Dustin can usually be found fly-fishing in the Smokies, expanding his skills as a craftsman, or enjoying his next adventure. He and his wife, Rebecca George, live in East Tennessee.

    Key Takeaways!

    • God is always with us, even in the dark seasons whether we feel it or not
    • If you’re a follower of Christ, you are never alone - He is with you
    • Be still - in seasons of grief, sorrow and trials, silence can be healing
    • Remember that God’s word is eternal truth and our feelings are fleeting
    • God Has Never Failed!!
    • It’s not only that God hasn’t ever failed you... but He has never failed ever!

    Dec 4 2024

    Send us a text

Are you craving for a change in life that will lead to actual transformation? God's word is the answer.

The Bible is our #1 way to know God, hear God, be led by God and truly understand anything in life. One question we as humans ask all the time is how do we get into scripture and really experience that life change that we are so craving?

Dan Jacobsen is on fire for the Lord and passionate about seeing people like you and I experiencing transformation in our lives because of God's amazing work through scripture. That's why he finished the book his grandfather started.. wait until you hear about it!!

Dan Jacobsen is the lead pastor of Heartland Community Church and grandson of the late Warren Wiersbe. Warren, a renowned Bible teacher and former Moody Church pastor, who published more than 150 books throughout his lifetime, including the popular BE series.

Years ago, an unpublished manuscript tucked away in a dusty manila folder was unearthed by the Jacobsen family. Dan spent two years preserving his grandfather’s original writings, completing the unfinished work. The result is Becoming New: A 100-Day Journey of Transformation through God’s Word , a powerful continuation of Warren’s legacy.

Within these pages lies a culmination of decades of Biblical study, thoughtfully written for any Christian to embrace and deepen their love for the Lord. It’s not a typical devotional book, rather, it focuses on one theme - the daily transformation of your life and world through the truth of God given by the Holy Spirit. Each of the 100 days in Becoming New offers a distinct theme, allowing readers to explore different aspects of their spiritual lives

    Key Takeaways:
Gain grandfatherly wisdom with a rich Bible commentary through this book

Learn how to prioritize God’s word, grow in your understanding of what God’s up to and see how He’s changing you in your daily life

Let the Bible interpret and illustrate itself

If you want to take your faith walk seriously but also want to know God’s word in a way that gets deep in your heart, this devotional will help get you there

  • Discovering God’s Bigger Story for Your Christmas Season with Donna Amidon
    Nov 27 2024

    Send us a text

Traditions are something that many of us hold on to tightly. Wanting to pass on some sort of meaning or fun especially during the holidays. This year I'd like to introduce you to a new tradition that will point everyone involved towards Jesus. It's more than setting up a manger scene and reading a story, it's a short daily reminder the entire month of December that will draw you closer to God in ways you never experienced before... with the Jesse Tree.

My new friend Donna Amidon is the author of Tracing His Promise: Understanding the Bigger Story of Jesus and What That Means for Us. It's a beautiful blend of rich theology, relatable stories, and everyday application along with renewed hope and trust in God as you witness His faithfulness to His people.

Tracing His Promise is an inspiring study of Jesus in the Old Testament. You can use the stories to teach your children/grandchildren about the promise of Christ during the Advent season. The book provides resources for families to begin a Jesse Tree tradition, including a link for a printable ornament for each day, tips on hosting an ornament exchange, and facts about how the Jesse Tree began.

She is a graduate of Southern Evangelical Seminary and a dedicated teacher at Back to Bible. She’s a seasoned speaker at women’s events and conferences, bringing insights from years of leading women’s Bible studies. She has held various church roles, including pastor’s wife, worship leader, small group director, and student ministries leader. Donna and her husband make their home in Virginia with their two children.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Jesus is more than a baby in a manger at Christmas time
    • Jesus’ life didn’t start with the red letters in the New Testament
    • The Jesse Tree is an advent tradition where each ornament represents an Old Testament story that points to Jesus
    • The stories of these ornaments help us see the eternality of Christ & draw us closer to Him
    • Practice the presence of God not just at Christmas but every day of your life
    • Trusting God comes from knowing God and we do that through spending time in scripture

  • Is Life Falling Apart? How Desperate Prayers Draw Us Closer to God with Rachel Wojo
    Nov 20 2024

    Send us a text

Prayer has been heavy on my heart for a few months and having back to back interviews for the podcast about prayer really drove it home for me. We as God's people have to be people of prayer. It's our main line of communication to God. Us talking to Him and Him talking to us.

Today's guest knows all about being angry with God and coming to him with her raw & real emotions. She has written two books that both talk about how hard and desperate life can feel, and how to go to God in the midst of it all. Rachel Wojo is an inspirational author, speaker and podcaster. Through her biblical approach and personal life experiences, Rachel empowers women to discover strength and hope in everyday situations. Despite enduring the loss of her mother, adult special needs daughter, and father, Rachel remains resilient.

This conversation is jam packed with so many amazing nuggets of truth that I ran out of room on my note sheet while we were chatting! Rachel's approach to including God in her life through creative ways of connecting to him in prayer were so inspirational to hear. One of my favorite was prayer habit stacking!

    Key Takeaways:
Desperate prayers are when we recognize that whatever is needed is outside of our control

We set standards for what we think prayer should look like... we need to drop prayer perfectionism

We get to know God’s voice stronger when we spend time with him, talking & listening

Take every raw emotion straight to the feet of Jesus

Prayer habit stacking, add prayer to a habit you currently have

God has never broken a single promise & He won’t in your situation either

  • Discovering the Depth of God’s Love Through Prayer with Rachael K. Adams
    Nov 13 2024

    Send us a text

They say that "you don't know, what you don't know". I think a lot of us don't know or aren't aware of the depth of God's love and how we have access to that love at all times. One way that we can discover the depth at which God loves us is through prayer.

My dear friend Rachael Adams has a passion for helping women discover God's purpose and love for them. Author of Everyday Prayers for Love, A Little Goes a Long Way, and host of The Love Offering podcast, Rachael Adams, hopes to help women realize their God-given purpose and significance. She and her husband, Bryan, live in Kentucky with their two children, Will and Kate. Her work has been featured on Good Morning America, Crosswalk, Proverbs 31, Today Parenting, and YouVersion.

In this conversation we talk about how prayer makes all the difference in our walk with God but also in the way we love others. Jesus tells us in scripture that "they will know you are mine by your love". Our distinctive marker of Christians is our love for others. That's not an easy task because.... people can be hard to love! We are only human, how are we supposed to live out this kind of love in our every day lives? You'll hear all about that in the episode this week.

What's even better is that you can read more and walk through an entire month of going deeper on this topic through Rachael's newest devotional (preorder below!) Everyday Prayers for Love: Learning to love God, Others and Even Yourself. It's an amazing 31 day devotional and reflective journal that takes you into scripture and shows you how to practically what this love looks like and how to live it out. I can't recommend it enough!!

    Key Takeaways:

A little prayer goes a long way

We can all pray to an audience of one who can reach the hearts of millions

The more time you spend with God, the more you’ll recognize His voice

Be in God’s word so that you can know if what you’re hearing aligns with scripture

Be faithful and steward what God is doing in your life right now

Pray for eyes to see people as God sees them

  • Preparing For The Holidays: How to Make Meals Meaningful Again with Anita Hinkeldey McVey
    Nov 6 2024

    Send us a text

Meal time is under attack from the enemy isn't it? It feels impossible to get everyone seated around a dinner table let alone have a meaningful conversation. So what do we do? How do we make meal time meaningful again, especially with the holiday coming up?

My guest, Anita shares her wisdom on this topic and how food brings us all together. Anita Hinkeldey McVey is a midwest farmer’s daughter who grew up in northwest Iowa on a steady diet of faith, family, and food. Her passion for cooking and gardening inspired her to create a blog, Picnic Life Foodie, where she shares her favorite recipes and the fond memories they bring to mind. With their two sons now “out of the nest”, Anita and her husband, Marty, live on an acreage in central Iowa with a large garden, a fishing pond, and an energetic hunting dog named Stark.

Something that I really want to encourage you with as you listen to this episode is the portion of the conversation where we talk about the holidays and how we are called to hospitality not entertainment. Between Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest none of us can live up to the picture perfect settings and meals culture is pushing on us to create. We have to redirect our focus from the entertaining mindset to one of hospitality. Where we take time to have the conversations with people, letting them know they are seen and valued versus rushing from one course to the next making sure everyone is happy and getting exactly what they want. Let yourself off the hook this holiday season… you have permission to enjoy the meal with your family and rest with them.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Food is easily relatable, that’s why God uses it to speak to us in scripture and in every day life
    • Go gives us smaller bites of wisdom, so we can chew on it with him
    • Invest in dinner time, whatever that might look like in this season of life, be flexible
    • There is a difference between entertaining and hospitality
    • Focus on the people -you have permission to not go the extra mile this holiday season and just rest with your loved ones
    • Reach out to those who are facing loss this holiday season and let them know you see them and understand how hard this can be

  • A Wife’s Guide to Biblical Manhood: Walking Alongside Your Husband’s Faith Journey with Vince Miller
    Oct 30 2024

    Send us a text

Biblical manhood… what is it and why as women should we care that much about it? As women in community with men, whether that be our husband, father, son, brother, co-worker or friend, we need to care about their relationship with God. The world is distorting what manhood is and if we aren't diligent in helping our men seek what the Bible teaches on the topic we could unknowingly walk them towards the wrong path. We have to be supporters in their choosing to following the truth and not culture.

My guest this week, Vince Miller, is a ministry veteran in this area. He has written 30+ books for men on all sorts of Biblical topics. From Bible studies to video series, he wants men to know who they are in Christ and get to know Christ better. His heart is for our men and he's here this week to clue us in on how we can come along side the men in our lives and help them grow in their spiritual walk with the Lord.

Vince gives us women practical ways we can come alongside our men on their faith journey and goes more depth in the conversation so make sure you listen to it a few times. It is so helpful and encouraging to be clued in to what we can do as wives, daughters, mothers and friends to encourage our men in their faith journey.

All in all… this is one of the most fun and informative conversations I've had on the podcast over the last 2 years. Share this with your friends, family and the men in your life!

    Key Takeaways:

    • The enemy takes truth and distorts it slightly and that’s dangerous if you don’t catch it
    • True manhood is rooted in God’s design
    • Every man needs another man by his side who’s been down the same road, encourage your man to be in community
    • 4 strategies for how women can support their man
    • Men hear critical voices from all around them, don’t be one of those voices
    • Encourage your man to be around other Christian men, meaningful relationships, men are far too lonely
