We all have moments when our mental game slips a little.

Back in 2005, launching was a game of one-hit wonders – build a product, launch it once… and then start again with something new.

The idea of relaunching the same offer was pretty much unheard of… as ridiculous as a studio re-releasing the same movie over and over.

So when I wrapped up my first launch for Product Launch Formula (PLF) – and it brought in $600k in 7 days – I assumed that was it for PLF.

Time to chase the next “big thing”. Or so I thought…

Fast forward a few months… and I’m at a conference, thinking about what to launch next, when someone approaches me and says something I wasn’t expecting…

Then another person comes up to me. And another…

About a dozen people approached me at that conference. And what they said didn’t just change the way I thought about launching…

As anyone who’s spent time in the comment section of YouTube will tell you – a community left unchecked can get messy real fast.

So it stands to reason that if you want to build a thriving community, you need strict guidelines and rules… right?

Well, if that’s true, someone should tell Emma and Eleanor from The Reconnected... :-)

Because they don’t have moderators… or a huge list of rules or community guidelines…

(In fact, they don’t have any guidelines at all.)

Here’s something else they don’t have – negativity.

In the five years they’ve been running their group, they’ve NEVER had a single negative comment – even when they welcomed 50,000 new members during a launch.

That’s pretty much unheard of.

Instead, they’ve built a loyal, die hard community of fans who show up and serve. And I’ve seen it from the inside…

I did a live broadcast with them in their community and was blown away by the energy in the room. I’ve never seen anything like it. (And I’ve been invited to a LOT of communities.)

What Emma and Eleanor have built is bigger than a community… it’s a movement.

One of my favorite questions for my entrepreneur friends: “What do you do when you need to get inspired… and you don’t have a whole lot of time?”

After all, as entrepreneurs, we get paid for the ideas we create and put out into the world.

Which sounds great in theory… but as anyone who’s had this “job” can tell you, that can be a lot harder than it sounds.

And if you’ve been in business for any length of time… I’m sure you’ve also had the experience of being up against the clock and trying – sometimes a bit desperately – to force a good idea to happen.

I’ve gotten a huge range of answers to this one… but for me, it’s always been clear…

The answer is in the mountains.

If I’m ever stuck – on a campaign, an email hook, or a big idea for a promotion – I know grinding it out on my laptop isn’t the answer…

So I lace up my shoes and go for a walk or a run in the woods. Because that’s where my best ideas show up.

In fact, it’s one of the reasons I moved out into the mountains of Durango, Colorado.

(Dan calls it “inspiration convenience” 😀)
