Just in time for Halloween!

Full disclosure, I do not profess myself to be a fan of the horror genre in books, film, or otherwise. As such, this gets most of its stars from me for its timeliness for the Halloween season. In addition, the Audible Editors featured in this podcast episode do a good job in pointing out the flavors of horror elements prevalent in suspense thrillers, action adventure novels, and even some classic literature.

As such, I personally got the most out of the discussion on Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", since that it the relevant work I have the most prior experience with. Of course, Stephen King's body of work gets special attention, since he has been so prolific in his career and he remains so well known because so many of his novels have been adapted into film. Other works of horror books mentioned in this podcast include:

"Baby Teeth" by Zoje Stage,
"Frankisstein" by Jeanette Winterson,
R.L. Stine's Goosebumps collection, and
"Interview with a Vampire" by Anne Rice.

I thought this was a nice ~45 minute podcast listen. It was particularly engaging because one of the contributing editors was obviously a horror superfan, and her enthusiasm was adorable to listen to. I recommend to those who are fans of the horror genre, looking for their next spooky/creepy listen, or just those in the mood for a little Halloween spirit.

Fewer recommendations than expected

For 40 plus minutes there was not a lot of actual horror recommendations. After the first 20 or so minutes The Exorcist and Frankenstein were discussed with a blip about Dance Macab by Stephen King which is him talking about horror. While the discussion of women talking about the horror genre, including past experiences and movies, veered off to "I like this" and "me, too" with discussions of why certain things are scary, it was not as described. It's not a list worthy of 40 minutes, especially with a few of the recs being obvious ads for audible only listens without much enthusiasm or description of why they liked the books specifically before more conversation not on the books (Frankenstein being the exception as it was given a lengthy discussion).

Episode 25

This one was fun to listen to, it helped me pass time at work. I like that it was 'Halloween themed' with spooky / horror books.

whaaaat?

It is chit chat about horror stories.
No performance.
No Story.
Did I listen to it all? No, but I skipped forward and played. Maybe I missed something. Then again, maybe this is a lead-in to something great and I will be black-balled from it.

Thank you so much for this free listen with four Audible editors as they discussed the horror and suspense genres! Gave me some great ideas to add to my library; new listens and re-listens alike!
