• 59// How to Teach Reducing Screentime Using Children's Bible Stories, Idols , VBS
    Aug 19 2024

My boys seem like they are obsessed with video games, and I absolutely cannot stand it. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that we all have something we can become addicted to if we are not careful. During VBS this summer, I had the opportunity to teach all the children about this very thing. This world is full of idols and one of our jobs as moms is to teach our children about not worshiping false idols. Today, I am going to tell you all about teaching your child about our BIG GOD and how this can help with reducing idols for your child AND for you! Let's Dig In!

Shout to my friend Jen Strange for putting together this curriculum.

  • 54 How Auditing Your Time Can Help Your Child Quickly Learn How to Read
    Jul 15 2024

Do you constantly say to yourself, ”I wish I had more time to help my child learn how to read?” My children learned to read at age 3, but our daughter didn’t have as strong of reading skills as her older brothers. During that time, I was so overwhelmed with work and life that I rarely read her any bedtime stories. It wasn’t until I audited my time that I realized I honestly wasn’t investing enough time to see the results I wanted to see.

After looking at several reading programs, it appears it often takes anywhere from approximately 12-30 hours to years of instruction to teach a child to read. This obviously varies depending on MANY factors such as the level of reading you’re trying to achieve, your kiddo’s age, attention span, language development, and the other literacy skills your child already has, but time spent focusing on reading goals really does matter. Today, we are going to audit your time to help your child quickly learn how to read. Let’s Dig In!

Setting goals is a fundamental aspect of teaching your child to read. However, simply having goals is not enough; they must be structured in a way that makes them achievable and meaningful.

I have definitely set several generic goals in the past such as “I will read books with my child more” or “I will practice reading with Naomi more” and those things didn’t really happen because there was not a clear road to what success was.

When I set SMART goals and shared them with my kids or my students, they excelled because they “understood the assignment.” Haha! Today we are going to learn about Making SMART Reading Goals for your Child. Let’s Dig in!
