In 2014, Darryl and Kim's oldest son, Chase, died in a drug-related wreck after struggling with addiction for a year and a half. Darryl began speaking on drug prevention in 2016. Since 2018, he has volunteered to facilitate a peer support group for people who have an addicted child, spouse, or sibling.

In 2020 Darryl became a nationally certified family recovery coach and in September 2023 certified as an Interventionist.

Chase, attended college on a football scholarship. He dropped out in the second semester of his freshman year after developing a drug addiction. When Darryl and Kim first learned of Chase's drug habit, they didn't know anything about substance use disorders, and they panicked. They made a lot of parenting mistakes.

Through an intervention, they were able to get Chase into treatment, but didn't realize the proper role of the family in the recovery process. In some ways they were enabling Chase and doing things that may have contributed to his eventual relapse.

Darryl worried about Chase constantly, but it seemed as though his efforts to help him only made matters worse.

Chase returned home from treatment and was doing well with his recovery at first, but months later, he relapsed and in 2014 at the age of 20, Chase died in a drug-impaired wreck. Chase was a passenger in the front seat of his own car. The 18-year-old driver took her own life 7 months later.

After Chase died, Darryl immersed myself in learning everything I could about substance use disorders. (drug & alcohol addiction).

Darryl wrote a book about Chase's life and began doing drug prevention speaking.

Beyond the lights and the camera, Melissa Huray spent her nights in darkness. Between seedy bars, lost time, and a painful quest for love, marriage, and a long-term relationship, she was spiraling—and no one ever knew. What started as an escape from her oppressive childhood had become an addiction that plagued and defined her. For fifteen years, she had hidden her dark, shameful secret, and when the cameras started rolling, she was always there, ready to deliver the news.

But all along, she knew something was missing, a truth she once knew was calling her back. She had first felt it as a teenager, when she felt invisible and forgotten in the cycle of addiction and superficiality that ruled her household. Melissa was lost in the shuffle of a distracted mother, alcoholic father, and spotless brother. Soon, panic attacks became all-consuming. The only way to feel better was to feel nothing at all, and remember even less.

But after fifteen years, the relief was fleeting, and she couldn’t stop. After one staggering night, she was faced with the horrifying reality that her time was ticking. She knew something had to change, and fast. But how? Melissa then realized it wasn’t “what” could save her, but “Who.”

You will be captivated by her remarkable testimony.

  • Episode 4 Healing From Alcohol Use Disorder With Katie Lain
    Feb 12 2024

    Send us a text

Katie Lain struggled with alcohol use disorder for almost 10 years, cycling in and out of periods of heavy drinking and quitting alcohol. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get free from this problem.

Katie finally escaped this cycle starting in 2017 when she learned about The Sinclair Method (TSM) – a science-based treatment for alcoholism that has a clinically-proven 78% success rate. This treatment was discovered in the 1990s, and is proven to help most people reduce heavy drinking and eliminate alcohol cravings over time.

Unfortunately, despite the evidence and high success rate, most people don’t even know it exists. Through this treatment, Katie gradually reduced her drinking, to the point of going completely (and accidentally) alcohol-free one year after she started.

After Katie got sober, she began to pray for the first time in her life and through that had a life-changing encounter with Jesus. Katie was saved out of the “new age” after this encounter in 2020.

She now runs Thrive Alcohol Recovery where they offer a comprehensive program for The Sinclair Method that includes a Christ-centered support program. She regularly hears people say that they “have been praying for an answer to their alcohol addiction and God led them to this treatment.” Many Christians who sincerely love the Lord – and many successful everyday people – are struggling with alcohol use, and we need more options for them.
