• Diagnostic Radiology with Dr. Ed Lipsit

    Dr. Ed Lipsit is a recently retired radiologist who received his MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He spent the first part of his career at the George Washington University School of Medicine, in academic medicine. Later on, he became a partner in a radiology private practice. Dr. Lipsit specialized in Women’s Imaging.

    As a radiologist, Dr. Lipsit performed diagnostic imaging procedures – like MRI, CT, PET, and ultrasound, reviewed information gathered from these imaging procedures, and communicated the results to patients and other physicians. The collaborative nature of radiology – constantly discussing results and talking with other healthcare providers – is one of Dr. Lipsit’s favorite aspects of it.

  • OB/GYN with Dr. Delores Williams

    Dr. Williams is a retired obstetrician/gynecologist who has spent years tutoring and mentoring students as well. She attended college at Swarthmore College before attending Thomas Jefferson Medical College for medical school. During her career, Dr. Williams worked in family practice before completing a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and spending several decades in that field.

    Much of Dr. Williams’ life has been devoted to helping students. Besides having raised and supported three of her own children through professional, Dr. Williams has tutored students through the Chester Upward Bound Program. In her free time, she enjoys working with premed students at MedSchoolCoach and spending time with her husband, who is also a physician.

  • Psychiatry with Dr. Sarat Munjuluri

    Dr. Munjuluri is a child psychiatry fellow who took a non-traditional path to medicine. After graduating from Rutgers University with degrees in English and Biological Sciences, he taught through Teach for America and worked as a college counselor. A decade later, he attended medical school at University of California – San Francisco and additionally earned a Master’s from University of California – Berkeley.

    Psychiatry was the natural fit for Dr. Munjuluri, who works with adolescents and their families on a daily basis. His presentation highlights a case of depression in a teenager and describes the biopsychosocial model of health. He also answers questions about his decision to pursue medicine and child psychiatry, highlighting some of the challenges he faced and providing advice to pre-meds.

    In her life as an anesthesiology resident, Dr. Lindgren spends time in both the pre-op clinic and also in the operating room during various surgeries. She enjoys being able to perform procedures, administer medications, and take care of patients from the start to end of their experience in surgery. Dr. Lindgren talks about the different fields within anesthesiology and provides advice for pre-med students interested in a career in medicine and anesthesia.

  • Dermatology with Dr. Newsha Lajevardi

    Dr. Lajevardi is a dermatologist who currently practices in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After attending college at Northwestern, she went to Boston University for a master’s in medical sciences. Later, Dr. Lajevardi earned her medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and trained in dermatology at Brown University.

    Dr. Lajevardi enjoys treating patients with a wide variety of dermatologic concerns. Her practice includes medical, cosmetic, and pediatric dermatology as well as cutaneous and laser surgery. In her presentation, she discusses cases of acne, psoriasis, and their different treatment modalities. She loves being able to diagnose patients and to treat their skin conditions as well.

    In her free time, Dr. Lajevardi enjoys mentoring students interested in dermatology, spending time with her family, and enjoying the warm Florida weather.

  • Orthopedic Surgery with Dr. Matthew Winterton

    Dr. Winterton is an orthopedic surgeon with a specialization in hand surgery. He graduated from Brigham Young University and performed research at the National Institutes of Health, earning him distinction as a Goldwater Scholar and Tylenol Future Care Scholar. For medical school, Dr. Winterton attended the University of Pennsylvania and trained afterward at Stanford, the University of Pennsylvania, and Rush University.

    His career involves taking care of patients with arm injuries, ranging from children born without a thumb to weight-lifters with torn triceps muscles. Dr. Winterton sees patients in the clinic and also in the operating room, splitting his time between both.

    When he is not operating, Dr. Winterton enjoys traveling and has visited almost 40 countries. He also serves as an advisor for MedSchoolCoach, using his admissions committee experience to help students interested in medicine achieve their goals.

  • Interventional Cardiology with Dr. Ali Haider

    Dr. Ali Haider is an interventional cardiologist in Massachusetts and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at UMass. He received his medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and went on to an internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center. He completed a cardiology fellowship at North Shore/LIJ-Hofstra and spent an additional year receiving further training in interventional and endovascular cardiology at Weill-Cornell.

    On a weekly basis, Dr. Haider takes care of patients in both the office setting as well as in the cath lab, performing procedures such as coronary artery stenting for acute heart attacks, to TAVR procedures to replace the aortic valve. He also has a role in performing research and teaching cardiology fellows and students.
