The baby is adopted by a grieving gorilla mother and raised amongst them as one of their own. He is named Tarzan.

"The Beasts of Tarzan" is a novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the third in his series of books about the title character Tarzan. Originally serialized in All Story Cavalier magazine in 1914, the novel was first published in book form by A. C. McClurg in 1916.

This is the first story in the Tarzan adventure novels. The legend begins when Tarzan’s parents are placed on a jungle shoreline by mutinous seamen.
