But the next morning, one of the cast members informs her that Ellen Teague, the famous actress, is dead in her bed. As if this discovery isn’t shocking enough, Brenda is dismayed when Detective Mac Rivers narrows her down as his prime suspect and states she has the strongest motive for killing the star.

Brenda Sheffield at age 46 is as excited as a young 20-year-old thinking of her upcoming wedding. Christmas Eve will present two weddings, since her best friend Phyllis Lindsey will participate in a double wedding with her. It isn’t until Phyllis tells Brenda of her only wish for a wedding gift that Brenda finds herself involved in a crime that happened five years ago.

There is a dead body at The Lodge - a dead body that just happens to hail from Nikki's own hometown of Atlanta. Tourists begin to flood the town and Sheffield Bed and Breakfast is filling up fast. There is only one vacant room due to a cancellation. Brenda is sure her young Reservationist Allie Williams will have it filled before the day is over.

Excitement races through Sweetfern Harbor as the famous July boat races near. Brenda Sheffield finds herself busier than ever at Sheffield bed and breakfast. Her place is booked solid, and calls come daily from potential and hopeful customers that have to be turned down. Brenda has never been as happy as she is now. Detective Mac Rivers asks her to marry him, and she accepts. Her disappointment comes when he wants her to wait to announce the news until after the long weekend is over. She reluctantly agrees.

Halloween draws closer and each day brings more imaginative ghost stories to Brenda Sheffield’s attention. She is well aware that the Sheffield Bed and Breakfast is conducive to the notions the place is haunted. Allie and housekeeper Phyllis Lindsey come up with the idea to give candlelight tours during Sweetfern Harbor’s Halloween festivities. First, Brenda must find out all she can about her bed and breakfast from the local library. When she meets with Mrs. Perch, Librarian, she is horrified to discover the sinister side of Sheffield Bed and Breakfast.

At Sweetfern, there are more than rare relics on display. Before the arrival of the collectors at Brenda’s family establishment, The Sheffield Bed and Breakfast, she was ignorant to what a wampum is until a kindly collector shows one that will feature at the highly anticipated Native American Market. However, the sight of a wampum triggers a memory in Brenda - she recalls her uncle Randolph Sheffield possessing one, a rare relic that could be in the dusty attic. Why would something so precious be left to gather dust?

Margaret is living the dream, running her sweet shop alongside her son, Zach, and her good friend Patti. Business is hurting, though, due to new construction work going on around one of the vacant units, and other tenants are beginning to feel the tension. Usually, everyone treats each other with a degree of respect, but it seems everyone wants to be rid of the new coffee shop chain that has opened.

It’s finally her time to make a difference. Brenda Sheffield Rivers can hardly contain her excitement when the local hospital invites her to host a fundraiser at Sheffield Bed and Breakfast for cancer research.
