About this listen

The roll of the dice,
The flip of the cards,
I love it all.
The risk,
The chance,
The odds.

Which is why I'm here again,
In over my head,
Drowning in debt,
With no clear way out.

But when a sexy, commanding boss makes me an offer.
I can't refuse.
After all,
It can't be that hard being married to the Brash Boss.

But deals struck over money should never involve the heart...

Good characters

Overall, I enjoyed the story. I kept thinking that because Nico is a mob boss that there would be some danger but this story more focused on the psychological ramifications of being brought up by an awful, corrupt man. Nico felt evil because of how he was brought up and didn't think he deserved love. Barbara is the sister of his brother's bandmate (from what I can tell, these rockers are likely covered in other books from AS Roberts). Her gambling addiction is also secondary in terms of the story but again, sets the stage regarding her psychological frame of mind. Regardless, it was a sweet story in general, with a bit of angst as these two characters try to reconcile what they think of themselves and their ability to be a part of a healthy relationship. Loved the integration of Tripp and his Perky in this story (from the originator story)

I listened to the audiobook because, well, Teddy Hamilton was narrating and he was good. Actually, surprisingly, I adore him but in this book, his voice felt a little stilted. I wonder if that is because there are times when Nico's is supposed to lapse into having an Italian accent. Desiree Ketchum did well too but again, there was an oddness to her narration of when Nico was supposed to have more of an italian accent. Overall, this was an enjoyable listen!

A VERY ENJOYABLE MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE

Nico is a handsome sexy Vegas Boss with a ruthless reputation and a damaged background.. but beneath the flashing lights, bodyguards and hand guns, he would do anything for the people he loves.. and that includes breaking his personal oath to never marry. His Nonna in Crete is putting pressure on him to find a wife and ten months ago she gave him twelve months to find one and time’s running out. So when fate steers broke gambling addict Barbara into his Casino yet again, and it’s obvious she’s been struggling, Nico feels the need to help her. But when rival Mafia soldiers start to stalk her, Nico comes up with a stupid stupid knee-jerk of a plan.. pay her debts off and fulfil Nonna’s wedding wish. Stupid because their chemistry sizzles.. stupid because his dark side battles new emotions and he doesn’t know whether to let her in or push her away.. and stupid because it brings out a possessive protective romantic side. Because Nico is haunted by his late father’s evil words and predictions.. and the harsh realities of a Mafia Boss is no place for his angel.

This was a very enjoyable listen.. an ‘insta’ attraction which soon leads to love but it doesn’t run smoothly because Nico battles his emotions at every turn which rocks their relationship. Barbara’s got her own demons to battle too but she’s all in and gambling her heart to win Nico’s.. but Nico is reluctant to let his walls down. Set mainly in Crete, it is (IMO) very much on the light side for a Mafia romance, light on drama and suspense too.. however there’s sexcapades, character development, humor, emotional conflicts and turmoil, romance and a good cast of secondary characters in this entertaining ‘marriage contract’ romance. Nico’s Private Pilot and friend is Carter (aka Trip) from Playboy Pilot by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland and it was great to have him and Kendall often present and weaved nicely throughout the plot. Told in dual POV and the narration brought the story and its characters to life.

Worth a credit? Yes definitely.. but not really dark.. or include Mafia angst.

Bee and Nico

This was an enjoyable light mafia story about Nico, who is the head of the family and Bee, who is a gambling addict. When she is in Nico's casino, a rival family comes in for her. Nico's security team escorts them out and escorts Bee up to his office. He explains that he wants a marriage of convenience with her. After she agrees, he pays off her gambling debts and put her in therapy. He then takes her to Crete for the wedding. Nico was hard to swallow. I did not care for him at all. Carter/Tryp, from Playboy Pilot, was Nico's private pilot. Tryp and his little family were great. Desireé Ketchum and Teddy Hamilton did a great job with the narration.

I would save it!

It started off good but overall no thank you. There are a lot of things that don’t make sense in the book and how there are flash backs. Just wish it was better!

3.5 ⭐️s Good...but

This is a very soft story. No plots, no surprises, no thrill, just literally a Hallmark movie that you know immediately how the story will play out. I kept waiting for a plot to develop especially since Nicco is a Mafia Boss and all, but nothing...it fell - flat. The female narrator was just okay. So all in all...good, but not worth a credit.
