About this listen

Keep my head down, get good grades, and become a shifting demi-lion while fiercely protecting my pack of gorgeous monster girls from the vicious diurnal faction. What was the first thing again?

Something primal is lurking under the belly of Green Valley University, but there’s no way for Evan to know that. All he’s worried about is trying to study while sitting next to a redheaded beauty. Her skintight jeans and ungodly low-cut crop-top are making it impossible to focus.

But the feeling is mutual. She won't stop watching him, and he’ll soon find out that she needs more than just to be bedded. After class, Ali reveals her animalistic nature, and Evan’s picture-perfect college world is about to come undone.

And it’s not just her. She’s got roommates. There’s the tall, fluffy-eared brunette with glowing amber eyes and impossibly long legs. There’s also the petite, skittish blonde with a perfect bubble behind and an equally perfect tail - and this one might act like she's scared of Evan, but the wagging suggests otherwise.

Evan quit firefighting to get a master’s degree, but now he has to fight the fire inside of him - as the lion inside awakens with a roar. He’d do unspeakable things to protect the girls from the other demi-humans - the ones that hunt for his pack and their sacred artifact.

But the diurnal faction never accounted for Evan.

Something has happened to him. It’s not just his heightened senses. He can feel it in his body. Turning. Changing. Gnawing to get out.

There’s a beast inside of him, and it doesn't care about grades.

harem slice of life

best way to describe this is MC stumbles into a relationship with 3 pretty girls, and some minor trouble occurs. Don't expect massive world building, gods and demons raining down from the sky, more like a trip to the shady side of town with saucy bits sprinkled throughout. A nice listen for when you're not looking for epic levels of adventure, more like a quiet night in.

Good story.

Like the story but the MC narrator was really monotone in his delivery, was very of putting. The story line made up for it and I look forward to the next.

Good story bad narration

This was a hard book to get through. The story is good but the male narrator was so monotone I almost gave up on this book. If the male narrator change I'll try the next audio, if not I'll stick to reading the next one.

Good story, but kinda disappointed

Okay. So I'm going to unload my honest opinion about this book.

Story-wise, it was good. Not great or terribly impressive. The term "show, don't tell" could apply to some of the scenes fairly well because I didn't see much build up or reason to certain actions that were taken by some of the characters. Some of the characters even changed very quickly rather than gradually.

Narration. I have to agree some with another reviewer, Chaz R. The dialogue would have benefited greatly with more Inflection and Tone. I did like that the book was dual narrated since it gives the cast a wider range, but it is mute if the narrator is giving a mostly flat delivery.

Here's hoping that some of the issues are fixed in book two.

The emotion

The book was good. Veronica was great. Clint could have been great but lacked proper syntax and inflection. Likened to a robot

Loved it

Not sure, but why the hate from others? It was a good book, good voice actors. Enjoyed the whole thing. I highly recommend it to anyone in the genre and is a good addition to it.

didn't quite hit the mark

Good narration but unfortunately the story wasn't quite there.

spoilers:

A ceiling tile falls from the ceiling and wires leap out at a girl and a fire starts (because it totally happens all the time) but our hero pushes her out of the way.

of course she immediately trusts the MC implicitly and jumps straight into his bed, never mind the fact that she and her friends have been on the run for years, hiding from people that want to steal magical artifacts from them and or kill them.

a magical item get stolen (yeah she's a ware Fox and the item helps her act more human) to which the MC immediately charges off have cocked get sucker punched leaves and then comes back later and expects a fair fight. bad guy is beta male who for some reasons decides that yes he will see the MC one-on-one (doesn't bring his cronies and bounces back and forth between acting all macho and cowering like a whipped dog) MC is like: I got to kill this guy and then backs off because hurting people is bad - almost loses the fight and then finally kills the bad guy. the girls jump into his bed.

the end

the story had potential, unfortunately there were some major plot holes and consistency issues. I wouldn't write this author off, but unfortunately this book was kind of a dud - but hey it did have some steamy sex scenes.

Veronica and Clint did a good job with the narration.

Good story Bad narration

It was very obvious to me from the beginning of this book that the narrators were not invested in telling this story, so I really had to pay attention to the story itself to determine how I felt about the book.

The story overall was great and I really enjoyed the opening to this series and beginning to learn about the core characters.

The narrators need to be swapped out in favor of narrators who are committed to telling the story and are invested in it.

Overall I did enjoy the book, but if the narrators remain the same I will only continue it on kindle unfortunately.
