About this listen

From New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg comes a new, sexy standalone about taking chances and finding love when it’s least expected. Or wanted.

This whole contest was supposed to be easy. I know, I know. Famous last words.

It’s a long story, but I messed up at work. Big time. To earn back the trust of my boss, I promised to save one of our magazines. Yep. That Hot Dad contest you’ve seen advertised all over the place was my idea. And if I’m successful, if I’m able to increase our online readership, then I get a shot at my dream job.

But the one thing I never expected to happen, happened: Contestant number ten, Grayson Malone. Hello, Mr. Difficult. And did I mention sexy as hell?

Unfortunately he knows me. The old me, anyway. And while we might be older now, I remind him of before. Of the woman who broke his heart, who hardened him, and who left him alone to raise the cutest little boy I’ve ever seen.

But I don’t want a relationship. And I definitely don’t fall for single dads with baggage. Even ones with chiseled abs and killer smiles.

But he got to me. They got to me. He and his son and their messy, crazy life. But I got to him too. I see the stolen glances. I feel the walls he built start to crumble. I recognize that there’s an unexpected beauty to the chaos in his life.

And now that the contest is about to end, we’re left to decide whether the last six months were just fun or if what we have is worth risking it all?

Not a dull moment in this book

I liked it very much. There wasn’t a dull moment in this book. Between the instant heat and then the romance between Sid and Grayson, the contest and its organization and twists and turns, the professional shenanigans for Sidney and Grayson, and the family stuff and personal development of both characters, there was no place for repetitions. The story always moves forward, but doesn’t forget to look back.

The minute changes in the characters happened for a reason, and it was quite enjoyable to follow their journey from broken or perfectible characters to their better selves who were capable of love and commitment. In the middle, Grayson’s son was a delicious bonus, curious and sweet, and sometimes annoying–it shows that the author has kids of her own.

I wasn’t too fond of their backstory, with all the classism, discrimination and prejudice, but I understood its importance for this particular story–if Grayson’s wife and Sidney hadn’t been the little BFF princesses they were in high school, and Grayson’s wife hadn’t deserted him because of money and status, there wouldn’t be a story. But I liked how they gradually see past all that, with a lot of bumps though.

The attraction is strong at the beginning, and it’s purely physical, but they actually learn more about each other, and that’s how the romance blooms. That’s the part I loved the most.

As for the narration, it was pretty good. The female narrator’s male voice sounded a bit emotionally cold at times, while the male narrator’s female voice was a bit too naive for Sidney, but all in all it was enjoyable and they were both capable of expressing deep feelings and make the book that much more intense.

The Malone brothers are...

worthy if being book boyfriends. This is a single dad enemies to lovers romance that will light up a readers day like the 4th of July. The narration was a delicious experience.

Beautiful story.

I love this story. Single parents are one of my favorite tropes. The ability to fall in love with the parent and the child is admirable, it takes a special person to love without conditions. This story will pull on your heart and bring out emotions. The way k. Bromberg wrote little Luke’s character will melt your heart, such a sweet boy with abandonment issues because of his mom. Together, Grayson, Sidney and Luke found their HEA.

Best Audiobook Out of the Everyday Heroes Series

Oh how I’ve come to love those Malone brothers! Grayson’s story was the one I’ve been waiting on. Grace and Zachary did a great job of bringing Sydney and Grayson’s characters to life. Luke’s character was the sweetest. Every time he spoke, I wanted to cry. This was my favorite out of the series.

Struggled with this one

The story was so well written but Grayson was just too mean. I really struggled with that. Sidney at first seemed too flighty and self-centered. I hesitate to review a book just based on my preferences because this is a very well written story with great depth. Just not my cup of tea.

not my favorite BROMBERG book

I am a huge fan of Kay Bromberg books but this one was just flat for me. i didn't care for the narrator Grace Grant, although I really like Zachary Webber. Not sure if I didnt like the story or if the narration just left me a little bored!

this book had me hooked, I laughed, I cried, so many feelings. It really touched me, I guess cause I was a single parent for 7 years. Love little Luke!

This book is definitely Worth the Risk!

Kristy Bromberg knows how to write a great love story. Those Malone brothers are swoon worthy and as a cherry on top little Luke Malone comes in and steals your heart. This book takes to the edge of an emotional journey and saves you in the nick of time. This is a great story and a must read. Zachary and Grace give a great performance.

Loved it, entertaining and well paced

The performances were great, Grace and Zachary carried the story on the few occasions it dragged.

There were some moments when I thought the characters were losing credibility: the once-burned hero who can’t get over himself and the hurt done to him or the overbearing father who seems a bit bipolar at times but fortunately these incidents were few and far between.
