Objectively Bad

I’ll preface this by saying I have a background as a psych RN. This book is terrible. It has some good ideas for thought, but states it doesn’t use the DSM because codependency isn’t a disorder. Ok, that’s fine. It goes on to say that people with personality disorders made the conscious choice to have a personality disorder and healthy people simply chose not to. (That’s patently false.) It completely overlooks the role of trauma in behaviors. It addresses codependency has a history of trauma but then states that people who can’t speak up for themselves simply have a “closed throat chakra”. Sir, no. It then goes on to try to sell essential oil blends for relationship healing. Because this book can’t separate selling homeopathy, essential oils, and other woowoo while discrediting the actual trauma people suffer I cannot recommend this book.

In addition to that, the narration is abysmal. The narrator is very staccato and puts entirely the wrong emphasis in the sentence. So he’ll use a tone of voice for ending a sentence in the middle of a sentence, mispronunciation, awkward breaths taken in the wrong flow. It comes across as very amateur and makes the book sound like a word salad. It doesn’t help that the actual writing is so heavily steeped in flowery language and metaphors you have to significantly struggle to make sense of what’s being said. It’s four hours of word salad.
