About this listen

Allen Jameson had it all - the perfect house, the perfect partner, the perfect life - until his partner, Gary, died suddenly, leaving him alone in the real world where life isn't so pretty and people make mistakes. Now Allen is the owner of Sweet 'n' Sassy Cupcake Shop, a cute boutique downtown, where he invents delicious flavors like strawberry and French meringue. Between working long hours and making special orders, Allen barely has time to think.

Then a hunky contractor walks into his shop looking for a treat. Allen and Byron Bannigan are total opposites, but they're perfect together: salty and sweet like Allen's signature peanut butter and chocolate ganache cupcakes. But as Allen struggles to juggle his business and his boyfriend, he learns he can only handle so much. He may have to choose between the cupcakes in his store and the cupcake in his bed.

Mildly disappointed

I love this author and looked forward to this story for a while. My disappointment is in the lack of development in the story. I just felt there could have been a lot more done with the story and I also felt there were pieces missing which left the story incomplete for me.

I think it is a sweet book and did enjoy it overall.

Cute Story

Cute short story, narration was great, overall like the characters but they could have used more development in the story

Dissapointing.

Would you try another book from Sean Michael and/or Jeff Gelder?

Not sure. The storyline was promising. The main character is dealing with the death of his partner, having to continue life on his own, and working hard to ensure his small cupcake business is a success. Sounds interesting...doesn't it? But no. The dialogue was poorly thought out. At times Allen seem dim-witted bordering on linguistically challenged.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

For a happy ending it was OK.

What didn’t you like about Jeff Gelder’s performance?

I'm not sure if it was the narrator or the book. His voice was pleasant enough, but his performance was disappointing.

Any additional comments?

The premise of the story, at first glance, is appealing...relatable even; unfortunately the author did not develop the characters enough. This could have been such a compelling story.
