About this listen

"I'm in trouble, Liz. I've uncovered something… They're watching…."

That panicked message on her answering machine is the last time Liz Ames hears from her sister Rachel, pastor of Paradise Christian Church in Key West, Florida. Compelled to uncover the truth about her sister's disappearance, she heads to Key West. Within hours of her arrival, a successful banker jumps to his death. Then a teenage girl whom Rachel was counseling is found brutally murdered. The ritualistic style of the killing is hauntingly similar to that used by the notorious "New Testament" serial killer—now on death row.

Could the teen's murder be related to Rachel’s disappearance? Is a copycat killer at work? And why do the police refuse to help? For answers, Liz turns to Rick Wells, a former Miami cop who worked the fringes of the "New Testament" investigation. Together, they peel away layers of deception to reveal a terrifying adversary—and the unspeakable evil at the heart of this island paradise.

While I enjoyed the story and the storytelling...

The heroine always saying she didn't understand was somewhat annoying. She must have said "I don't understand" a hundred times. Otherwise, nicely suspenseful.

A Good Suspense and Thriller

It takes a good narrator to make a book come alive, and Gayle Hendrix did just that. I enjoyed this book it's a good suspense, thriller. I couldn't put it down.

Surprised that I liked it

Somehow I didn't know it was a Harlequin when I downloaded, but I found I liked it. The plot had some good twists and the characters were interesting, you didn't always know who was good or bad.

Great story

Great story but narration was not very good. Lots of twists and turns and drug a bit but a good listen.

Good

Good book. Intrigue, mystery, testing faith, friendship and beliefs. Some details aren't for everyone.

Weak story, cringe worthy narrator.

What would have made Dead Run better?

Neither the story or the writing was very good and the narration made both worse.

Would you ever listen to anything by Erica Spindler again?

probably not

Yuck

Would you try another book from Erica Spindler and/or Gayle Hendrix?

I cold not get through it. The book jumps from character to character with no tie in with each other. I may give it another try but seriuosly doubtful!
