About this listen

Eli: I didn't know how to tell him how afraid I'd been that I'd never have this moment with him. This moment where it was just the two of us. This moment where he made me feel whole without even trying.

Abandoned. Abused. Betrayed.

Ex-cop Maverick "Mav" James needs only three things: his Harley, an open road, and his work in an underground organization that delivers justice when the law can't.

Family? They left him long before he left them. Friends? A liability. A place to call home? Doesn't exist.

Mav's motto is simple: Get done and get out. Work, sex, doesn't matter. No emotional connections. Simple. Until he meets him. Alone. Hiding. Broken.

At 15 years old, Eli Galvez had nothing. No family, no friends, and only his body as a means to make enough money to survive. But a chance meeting changed all that, and eight years later, he's well on his way to having the life of which he could once only dream. He's been accepted into medical school, and he's finally returned home to Seattle to be closer to the men and women who don't share his blood but are the only family he's ever really known.

Only things aren't what they seem, and the secrets Eli has been hiding are about to come to the surface with dangerous consequences.

One final chance at a real future.

Guys like Eli just aren't Mav's type, period. Yet he can't deny his intense attraction to the younger man who only looks at him with fear in his eyes. Until the day there's something else in those eyes, too. Something that draws Mav in and refuses to let go. Something that makes him want to forget his rules. But Mav's learned the hard way what happens when you get too close to something. And while he vows to protect Eli after a violent attack leaves the younger man shaken, protection is all he'll offer.

Because anything else would just cost too much.

Trigger warning: This audiobook does contain a possible trigger for some listeners.

Full-length novel. This is audiobook four in the series but can be listened to as a stand-alone story - no cliff-hangers.

Oh Sloan, you continue to slay all day!! ❤️😍🥰

LOVE love love the protectors series!! I love the Barreti family so much so when they are all brought in it fills my heart with joy!! Logan and Doms story was a game changer for me!! I loved it!! So when they come Into more stories and I hear how they are happy I love it more!! And I love Michael Dean as narrator as do so many others!! Pls keep him for the rest!! I can’t wait to read Caleb and and Jaces story or listen to it #hint hint. Please put on audible too! ☺️ one comment .. I didn’t like the transition from Mav not yet telling Eli how he felt and then boom when sh^+ hits the fan he says it. I would’ve like for Eli to have known Mav’s feelings before sh*+ hit the fan .. even if not a declaration but why Mav was scared to admit how he felt.

Loved the story, loved the characters!

Where do I start? I am new to Sloane Kennedy. I loved the first three audio books with the previous narrator. The new person is terrible! Like one continuous run on sentence. It was rough! I barely finished it and now I am more than a little upset I can't finish the series in audio. I have no idea why the narrator changed, but I would pay good money to here the other narrator finish this series. I am so disappointed.

Excellent- one of my favorite couples in the series

Maverick and Eli’s story is beautifully told. I love that Kennedy takes characters who look like they’ve got it all together and makes them human. Amidst the superb plot, the characters are revealed to be amazingly deep, with rich backgrounds full of secrets and darkness. These two characters are some of my favorites in this series. Seemingly strong and impervious to the chaos of life, but deep within they are a mixed up bundle of confused, scared and scarred. Their imperfections fit together so brilliantly with the way Kennedy brings them to life. This story is excellently written, and draws out a multitude of emotional responses in the reader. Like real life, not everything at the end of the book is tied up neatly in a pretty bow. However, there is a huge sigh of relief as there is justice and vindication in the end.

Spectacular

This series was already spectacular but now with switching narrators, it really hits out of the park! The previous narrator was really good but Michael Pauley just takes it even further with his character voices and he perfectly captures all the emotions of the characters and the story. The story itself is outstanding. Eli and Mav are great together and I love Mav's protectiveness over Eli. Watching them slowly grow their relationship is wonderful. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

No Holding Back on Hard Truths

This story hit me harder than any others to date. As a survivor of rape & guilt I carried, even though I couldn’t have stopped it, it took me a while to fully get through this. I’m glad I did. It was a reminder that such horrible acts happen, and regardless of circumstances-no means NO!
Michael Dean is my favorite Narrator, but I was disappointed in the voice of Mav. I know he has numerous voices & the talent to bring the story to life by using a different pitch, tone for each character. Mav, in my opinion, seemed stiff and halting. Not at all the voice the character description would lead one to believe. For the first time, my teeth clenched, as if nails were drug across an old-fashioned chalkboard.

Fabulous!

Sloanne Kennedy is such a fantastic and believable storyteller!! This is another example of family and its many facets. There is intrigue and heartbreak in the telling of this story. If you have triggers, make sure you read the warnings.

Good

This was book 4 in "The Protectors" series. At fifteen years old, Eli Galvez was saved by Dom and Logan when he was taken off the streets he was working when his sister went missing and was killed. After going to college on the east coast he returns to Seattle to get ready for medical school while waiting her volunteers at the hospital that Mattie is in when he meets Maverick. Maverick James has worked for Ronan for a few years Mav is afraid of commitment and letting people get close to him he doesn't think of the guys has is family because the family he was born into left him and disowned him because he was gay and half white and half native American. While working as a cop he ran across police corruption and the other cops turned against him. When he sees Eli after someone beat him up he knows that he has to protect him. What he found out was heart breaking with so much sexual abuse that Eli had to go through. Each one of the guys are having a hard time with the whole thing about how we make a family. Eli doesn't think he is good enough for the Barretti family and Mav never thought of Ronan and the guys as family. When a family tragedy Mav tried to push Eli away but he refused to go so they go together and Mav realized that he had someone that is not leaving him. When one of Eli's friends is hurt while returning his dog he was mistaken as Eli. When everything comes out Eli got to see that the Barretti's are his family and will do anything to protect him also both families meet. This was a good read although I wanted to slap both of them. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Mav and Eli

I felt so sorry for Eli, with everything that he had endured in his young life was terrible. Mav saw Eli on a daily basis when he volunteered at the children's ontology ward, he thought he was cute but not his type, when Eli gets assaulted in the parking lot, Mac comes to the rescue. They quickly fall in love and Mav had tried to leave numerous times, but so glad that he couldn't go far. They make a wonderful couple
