About this listen

Nikolai

My rules when it comes to my job in personal protection are pretty simple:

  1. Protect the client’s life, not their feelings.
  2. Don’t put hands on a client unless you’re getting them out of harm’s way.
  3. For God’s sake, don’t do something stupid like fall in love.

Twenty-four hours after meeting Jude Archer, rules one and two are already out the window.

Thankfully, there’s no chance of falling for the callous businessman who cares more about his next deal than he does his own safety.

Jude may have managed to make fools of all the guys his wealthy boss and rumored lover has hired to watch him, but he’s playing in the big leagues now. The son of a bitch might not value his life, but I’m pretty fond of mine.

Time to teach the clueless Jude Archer a few hard lessons....

Jude

My rules for success aren’t for everyone, but they should be.

  1. Work hard.
  2. When you’re on the verge of giving up, work harder. Life owes you nothing. You have to take what you want.
  3. For God’s sake, don’t do something stupid like get distracted by feelings.

With just weeks between me and the closing of the deal that will give me everything I want, I don’t have time to worry about a supposed stalker who hasn’t had the balls to do anything more than send a few threatening letters to my wealthy boss.

Sure, I sent a few so-called bodyguards packing. Even if I thought I was in serious danger, I can’t have someone watching me 24/7. My life works the way it does for a reason and no one, not even the gorgeous Russian ex-soldier who thinks he can scare me into submission, is going to change that.

Nikolai Falkov thinks he has something to teach me? Yeah, good luck with that.

Practically Finished in a single day!

Loved this story! I cranked thru it in nearly a single day, which I don't normally do. Hot romance, great characters and secondary characters. Good narration.

A bit too long for the story...

This story is a bit too long and a bit unrealistic. There were a few things that I couldn't get passed but can't share with you without spoiling the story.

It is an overall sweet romantic story. If you go with the flow, you will enjoy it.

The narration makes the story all worth it. Awesome job.

Enjoy!

I love Sloan Kennedy

As much as I love her books, this was a miss for me. I just couldn't get past some of the scenes that should have made this a good book, but instead it was just "meh" for me. There were some parts that made me laugh out loud so I gave it 4 stars. One such instance is in the epilog. Very nicely done. Maybe a reread will give me a higher opinion.

I like Micheal Dean, but he was a mis on this as well. He did really well on the voice of Jude, but not Nikolai. Nickolai was raised by Russian immigrant parents and speaks Russian with them (no Russian dialog appears in the book), so I would have expected a bit of Russian accent, if anything. However, when speaking he has a throaty, almost Jersey accent. I think Mr. Dean may have been going for a growly voice for this character, but missed the mark on both the voice and accent.

Fabulous

Does Sloane Kennedy write bad books? You’d think after all these security books she wouldn’t be able to surprise me, or make me fall in love. But she does every time.

Loved the main characters. I thought Jude was phenomenal. And the storyline was typical Sloane but still great.

Of course Michael Dean on narration was perfection again. Always love listening to him and can’t imagine him not narrating a Sloane Kennedy now.

NICE ROMANCE

Good author and great narrator.
This is not a 'who dunnit'. The mystery here is in the main characters and not the plot. It is very 'feel good' romantic but not a crime drama or mystery.

awful narration

I love this book story. It's one of the best bodyguard romances I've read, with great characters, tons of depth and emotion as well as hot scenes. but the narration on this RUINS it. Nikolai is supposed to have a mild russian accent and this narrator came up with a bad Schwarzenegger accent at best, which went from there to gone to Jersey shore. He tried to use a deeper voice for Nikolai which was clearly forced and robbed all emotion from the words. the voice ended up making this compassionate, passionate character sound DUMB AS A ROCK AND ROBOTIC. Seriously. Read the book, don't waste your time with this narration. it is PAINFUL.

A Hot & Heartwarming Bodyguard M/M Romance

You're going to enjoy the story of these two men and the slow building heat between them! Micheal Dean does a great job of pulling you into their world with his portrayal of the two main characters. The first Jude Archer seems to be a smooth. cold, calculating and, somewhat, cruel young upward seeking excutive. The other, Nikolai is a tough, gruff, no nonsense bodyguard trainor and recruiter for the small security startup, Smithfield Security.

Billionaire Hays is looking for protection for Jude, his up-and-coming executive, after Jude has managed to evade or elude four different body guard's from Hays ' current security agency Premier on several occasions. After giving two Smithfield Security bodyguards multiple times, Mike, owner of Smithfield, best friend and boss of Nik, tells Nik if they lose Hays' business they'll lose Smithfield, and begs Nikolai to takeover Archers detail.

And so the fun begins...Is Jude the cold fish he seems to be, is there some age gap romance going on between Hays and Archer, who's threatening Jude and why, what's going on with Nikolai's family?

I have yet to find a book written by Sloane Kennedy that I haven't loved and this one is no exception. Whether you choose to read the kindle version or listen to the audible narrated by Michael Dean (one narrator I never miss an opportunity to pick up when I find him, er, any audible that is). I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Good read

I enjoyed this. Some nice nuances that helped keep my interest.

Writing this review to make a plea to all authors:
Personal note…please minimize the use of “you belong to me” “I wanted to mark him as mine” or similar phrases.
I know we say certain things in moments of passion, but perpetuating ownership of another person is dehumanizing not romantic.
