About this listen

Giovanni needs a man to rule him. Valentin has met his match.

Valentin Fortuna is a man who prides himself on his restraint and self-control. As the head of the Aponte family business and mentor to his late Don’s troubled grandson, Valentin takes his responsibilities very seriously. So when the young man he’s been entrusted to keep safe is retraumatized at a house party, Valentin immediately steps in and installs Giovanni in his penthouse in Brooklyn to monitor his recovery. There Valentin provides him the structure and discipline Giovanni craves, as well as a strict set of rules to maintain his vulnerable sense of self.

But Giovanni wants more. He wants the pleasure and the pain only Valentin can administer, to ascend to godlike heights of passion and rid himself of the voices that plague his every waking minute. The demons are loud, but Valentin’s voice is louder, and their chemistry is as addictive as it is potent.

Giovanni is an introspective romance centered around a D/s dynamic. This work contains several references to past sexual abuse and trauma. Trigger warnings for addiction, suicide attempt, and self-harm. This book is meant for entertainment purposes only, not as a guide to safe, sane, and consensual BDSM practices.

Intriguing Master/slave Story

Both the author and narrator are new to me and I haven't been introduced to the world of Valentine or Giovanni before. It kind of felt like an abrupt beginning since Giovanni has been through a traumatic attack and the story begins from Valentine taking care of him while slowly doling out the details. The focus really is on Giovanni's recovery from a long history of abuse and traumatic instances and I did find myself wanting to see how everything would play out. I think Laura Lascarso's writing style is very smooth and created a great tone for the dynamic of Master/slave that the two characters eventually settle into.

As far as the narration goes, Daniel Carter has a very soothing voice. It's very even throughout the story which makes sense since it's entirely from Valentine's perspective and he is almost always in control.

I don't think this will necessarily be everyone's cup of tea but those who find themselves drawn to the D/s dynamic with a large age gap should definitely consider trying this one out.

Great story.

This is the story of Giovanni and Valentine. I loved listening to Daniel Carter narrate this story as he portrayed the characters perfectly. Please be aware of the trigger warnings. This book is emotional and not a light read/listen. The chemistry between them is amazing. Definitely recommended.

I received this book as an Arc and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

Terrific Story & Narration🎧 Gripping & Emotional!

Laura Lascarso takes you back to where it all began for Valentin Fortuna and Giovanni and delivers another beautifully written story that captivates your attention and tugs on your heartstrings the entire book.
Valentin, former capo to the Don of the Aponte crime family, has been running the Aponte family empire until the sole heir, Matthew Gianni Aponte III, can take it over himself. After his grandfather died, Matthew’s life spiraled out of control and he was in no shape to take over the family business, wanted nothing to do with it, heck, he did not even want to be Matthew anymore and he was reborn Giovanni Ricci. Valentin took him in to shape him and get him ready to take over what was rightfully his. Valentin tells the story of what it was like for Giovanni, everything he went thru including a traumatic event, and the struggles he is facing while battling his inner demons and trying to stay on the straight and narrow. Valentin, a Dom, uses his experience with subs on Giovanni, a natural sub. This is a great prequel to the second book, Master’s Schiavo, which I love and highly recommend if you have not read or listened to it yet. There is never a dull moment in this book, the story is has plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt and emotional moments, gut wrenching ones too, and the start to an amazing D/s relationship and romance. Laura Lascarso, thank you for another fantastic story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Daniel Carter continues to do a wonderful job bringing the characters and their story to life. He has a complete understanding of the characters he is portraying, gives each a voice that suits that character’s persona, sounding believable and just as I pictured them to sound. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the character’s emotions and projects them into his performance and has you feeling every single one. Carter is an entertaining storyteller and a versatile voice artist, his narration enhances this already fantastic story to another level. Thank you for another great listen.

Intense, emotional, powerful!

Narration: I love Daniel’s narration! The voices are spot on and I love how soothing Daniel’s voice is. It fits the mood of the book perfectly. I’ll definitely listen to this again and again.

Story: I adored Master’s Schiavo and I’m so glad we got more Giovanni and Master’s backstory. Laura does such a masterful job of developing the characters, writing an engaging story, and doing justice to the BDSM aspect, and Giovanni’s struggles with processing and handling his trauma and addiction. Their love felt powerful in Master’s Schiavo, but even more so in this book. This is definitely one of my favorite series!

Wonderful Prequel

I listened to Master's Schiavo before Giovanni was released. Then, I heard that Giovanni was going to be a prequel to Master's Schiavo, and I wasn't sure how I felt. However, this is the story that I didn't know I needed! I've enjoyed listening to both of them, in either order.

I loved that it's from Valentin's POV. We only get Giovanni's POV in Master's Schiavo. Daniel Carter continues to do outstanding job narrating. His voice for Valentin is perfect. I am impatiently waiting for the next one.

Such a compelling story!!!

Everything is change; and you cannot step twice into the same river.

This is a new to me author and a new to me narrator. I didn't think I was going to enjoy the narration at first, but after listening for a bit I realized that this was the perfect voice for Valentin. The narrator seemed so controlled in the reading which exactly fits this character.

The story is told by Valentin acting head of the Aponte family business. He took over the family business, after the Don's death, until his grandson (Giovanni) is ready to take the reins. Valentin has been watching over and mentoring Giovanni... after Giovanni is attacked, he moves Giovanni into his penthouse.

Giovanni is a 19 year old beautifully damaged soul. He's had a tough life; he's been kidnapped and sexually abused. Is Giovanni a sub/slave or is he just needing/wanting to please Valentin, afraid that he will be alone again?

This was a great book with all the feels. It's a gritty kinky story so be sure to read the warnings if you are easily triggered.

great listen

This is a new author and a new narrator for me. I must say I was very pleased with both. I thought the narrator did a great job with the story. I liked the life he brought to the charters in the book. He also had a great steady tone and I enjoyed his voice very much. I liked the story and I thought the author has a wonderful way with words and I look forward to reading/listening to more from her.
