About this listen

Eleanor Eastwick is out of tricks. This alleged wallflower is hiding a secret, beyond the fact that her family is skint broke. If she wants to ensure the survival of her aged grandmother and younger siblings, she'll need to leverage the only thing they have left—their good name—and land herself a rich husband. There's only one problem: she has no bloody idea what she's doing. Enlisting the help of the wickedly rakish Marquis of Basingstone, Eleanor embarks on a crash course in how to attract the monstrous Gentry, high society courtship, and lessons in lovemaking . . . academically, of course.

Lord Silas Stride, the Marquis of Basingstone, has no intention of giving away his heart. It would be cruel to chain another to the fate of a half-life such as his—only coming awake at twilight, living as a silent spectator to the daytime world. But Silas did not count on one Eleanor Eastwick. She had shone like a star when he knew her years earlier, and she did once again in his study, leaving him unable to deny his assistance. He could not possibly risk his heart on a delicate flower of the daytime, but a lady who was used to a life after dark . . . Silas Stride had no intention of taking a wife, but once Eleanor has left for the Monsters Ball, he cannot help but claim his own invitation, and his bride.

Contains mature themes.

Confused Identity

Overall enjoyable, but it was neither fish nor fowl. (1) The Regency romance amidst the the Ton—
tempestuous heroine of limited means and soon-to-be-reformed aristocratic rake and (2) the super spicy paranormal romance tend to have very different target audiences. May disappoint both.

I can't finish the audiobook

The woman preforming the FMC voice is horrible. I've listened to many bad preforming voice actors and could tolerate them. But this book....she ruined the audiobook for me. Her voice sounds like a raspy old hag and she makes a weird noise after each sentence. Her voice gave me a werid brain itch and i couldn't go on anymore. I tried so hard to keep going because the book is really good. I was reading along on kindle and I'm choosing to just read it there on my own and return the audiobook. It's such a shame because I didn't mind the performer for the MMC.

Absolutely perfect!

There isn't much that is more enjoyable than listening to Justine Eyre and Rupert Channing narrating a book together. Add to it that this book is perfection itself, well, what more is there to say?

If you're unfamiliar with CM Nascosta's books, she writes spicy open door monster romance. Actually, I find her descriptions of the acts to be classy, considering the subject matter. If you're curious about monster romance, I suggest starting with this book in particular, as it will ease you into it (pun intended).

Regency romance with monsters

Performance: I am going to be honest, at first I hated the accent choice that Justine made. However after a couple of chapters I realized that it was exactly what the story called for. Rupert was the perfect Marquis. This is duel narration but not duet.

Story: I really enjoyed this story. It was regency romance but with monsters and smut. And the smut is excellent. This author always does a great job with weaving the spicy into the plot that makes it feel so natural. I loved the twist at the end, didn’t see that coming.

Difficult to understand female actor

The female actor was difficult to understand due to sound of her voice. We even tried listening at 0.75 speed. It is too bad because we love this author’s books. If they record again with a different actor we would buy it because the story is romantic.
