About this listen

Vanessa loves having Grayson Hemming chase her, and she'll do anything to keep him running.

When werewolf Vanessa Blevin begins working at new law firm, she expects long hours, hard work, and harder personalities. Her boss is a demanding, demeaning bully who begins cutting her down on her very first day—cutting her down and setting her blood on fire. Grayson Hemming is tall, dark, alphahole handsome, the exact sort of werewolf she does not need in her life . . . but there's something about the way he smells, his cutting smile, and the way his eyes always seem to find her. Her wolf wants his, and the feeling is mutual.

The lines between their professional lives and personal desires are blurred every full moon in his bed, and the only way she knows how to keep from being burned is to keep running.

When she attends an exclusive Lupercalia celebration just outside of Cambric Creek, she knows exactly what to expect. The whole town knows what goes on at the invitation-only werewolf soirees, and she knows one of the wolves will have her before the night is done. One of them will have her, but only one wolf will do. One wolf, one knot, one set of teeth at her back . . . but he'll have to catch her first.

Contains mature themes.

Good start this darker series!

This was my first audiobook from CM and it wont be the last. I enjoyed this primal shorter story and am interested if there will be more from this world! I was a little discombobulated with the timeline jumps but I still enjoyed the storyline. I had to rewind a couple times because I missed some key points that made the story not flow but once I did I got it. I think thats why I didnt rate it a 5/5 stars. I usually have no problem with the kind of jumps/progression but this one was hard on audio (probably would have been fine reading).

I felt for Vanessa since Grayson was hot and cold so much I was getting whiplash! I did love how he brought her into his family, how she held her own with them, how when things went south she went to his family and got back into contact with him and he couldnt let her go after that haha. I liked the brothers antics, I even enjoyed how Grayson's dad was by the end. I thought that subplot was done really well.

The steam in this one was so yummy, I loved a feral/primal kink and being chased and duking it out was fun with their activities haha. I liked how they both gave each other it right back, no one was more strong-willed than the other. Did like the dominant coming out more as the scenes progressed, so delicious. I hope there are more audiobooks coming from this world, I can see this author having a fun time with all the side characters introduced in just this one book! I liked that it tied in with her other series, I am gonna catch up on the other series' this year, that is my goal!

Narration was good, I did wish it was duet narration but understand the POVs were all the main characters'. I think Grayson with a male voice could have been epic but the solo narrator on this one did a decent job with the various voices. I just think having a primal kink being acted out is better with the male voice, adds to the experience if you know what I mean haha ;)

The story lacked substance

I wanted this story to be so much more than it was all the other stories by this author are wonderful and I love them. I was really hoping that Grayson and Vanessa would be so good but it just wasn’t. The plot lacked any point, and the back-and-forth timeline didn’t actually make any sense and was very confusing. The pausing between chapters was very unclear. Then finish so much to be unsaid and was so abrupt, it was like all of a sudden the story was just over. There were definitely some portions of this story that were not consistent with parts of their story that were in another book and the timelines don’t add up, but I can’t give anything away in this review because I think that’s just rude so I won’t say more, but it was a little annoying as I have now read/listen to all of the stories. However, I will stay a true fan of this author. I will just say this is a one off and if you haven’t read all of her other books, don’t let this one discourage you because all of the other stories are absolutely delightful. I’m gonna go with maybe she just had a ghost writer with this one.

Always a pleasure to visit Cambric Creek

I listened to the audiobook and it's just as magical the second time around and on audio as it was when I read it last year. Vanessa is just as poor me, while also knowing that she is a freaking catch. And she's simultaneously so obsessed with not getting caught. It's a whole mood.

Grayson is down to chase her life. But refuses to tell her that. It's quite frustrating. Then you have the third act breakup where my heart broke for them all over again. You can see him opening up to her, and she assumes it's this weird game. Which is fair because their entire relationship is manipulation and games. But that was really tough. And the audio certainly did not make me feel it any less keenly!

I am so looking forward to our next trip to Cambric Creek. And doubly excited for Trapp's book!!!

This was hot!

And apparently, everyone participating in Lupercalia has either an exhibitionist or voyeurism kink. But if it's culture . . . Vanessa and Grayson playing around each other for years is preposterous. But here we are. I enjoyed this nonetheless, and this was just what I needed to pull me out of a slump today.

A love story

I really enjoyed this book overall. The FMC was really great and grew throughout the story.

The MMC is okay but he pissed me off a few times and I almost wanted her to hop on a plane and leave him in his little town. Thank goodness she’s more forgiving than me.

Almost DNF

I have really enjoyed several other books by this author, I wish I skipped this one. The storyline flashing back and forth was not only confusing but frankly boring. When the final orgy is boring you know this is a huge miss.
