About this listen

Kidnapped from dying Earth by the heinous Tonan race, Piper is locked in a small cell, deprived of light and human companionship, and tormented on a daily basis. When the door to her hell opens unexpectedly, Piper is blinded by the light and walks headlong into a massively built creature. She is tossed over a shoulder, taken on the wildest ride of her life, then placed into a healing pool.

Jago is a 400-year-old immortal who has never seen a living, breathing female before, but he knows of their existence. Their ship was headed to the planet Earth to see if they could find these rare human gifts when they accidently stumbled onto the Tonan vessel. Desperate to find a mate, Jago was thrilled when the little female walked right into his arms, as though she was waiting for him. Unfortunately Jago's leader, Cobra, has asked to impregnate Piper, thinking Jago too young. Ultimately the choice is Piper's. Who will she choose?

Voice Actor

Normally this guy is pretty good. But omg fail on the Cobra voice big time. Sounded like he was imitating a nasally high-pitched reptile being strangled.

OK - But Kinda glad it's Over

Ugh, so much worse than the last book. I like the premise of the story except when they get too deep into the emotions and sensing. I start to glaze over at that point. Also missed a great opportunity to add drama about the pregnancy, instead it came across as just creepy becuase it wasn't given enough dept. I'm referring to the point where Cobra offers to impregnate Piper becuase her mate hasn't gotten her pregnant yet. Yes, Cobra, the leader with his own mate and adopted children. It was just gross and creepy. I wanted a scene where Cobra's mate gives him hell and explains no matter how bad they need female children, that is just not a choice. Again, the story might have been better if the narrator didn't give Cobra and a few others these weird creepy over exaggerated accents.

Love this series

I’m pleasantly surprised with series so far , as I am with C. L. Scholey’s other books. The characters are very funny and lovable. They are short but I like that in this series as we can get to new characters. Can’t wait for the next.

Love the story

The narrator is better in this story. He actually gave the audio an arrange of emotions. This was not done in the previous stories. The story itself is really good and one of my favorites in the series. Piper was taken from earth by the tonanians and was saved by Jago. She has to see if she can trust this new life with a person she knows little about.

Unintentional humor

Briefly; the story is kooky, with lots of incredible explanations of the rules of an alien planet as presented by the characters.
That’s one of the reasons I admire the narrator. How that man can keep from guffawing as he reads is truly amazing and admirable. And, his voice for the head alien is wonderful. It’s not what you’d imagine an alien would sound like, unless the alien’s from the British Empire. So then, he sounds more like Winston Churchill.
One more thing. True to form, the alien men are super tall with alarmingly sized packages. Trite.
The witless female protagonist seems understandably dazed by the whole experience.
An unexpectedly fun listen.

Why did the author write Cobra this way?

Most of the series has been a short, fun read but this book had Cobra going against everything that the Castians stand for with mated relationships. Castians mate for life and are protective of their mates. Cobra may be the Castian with the most knowledge but he was a complete a$$ in this book.

Even the voice for Cobra has him sounding like a pompous a$$!

Cobra, the creepy uncle 🤮

Let me first say that I have enjoyed this series. Yes, it is a bit weird at times and the writing is not at the level of some Sci-Fi writers but this has been entertaining so far. However, Cobra is a mess! Corba is the creepy uncle that you see during the holidays and people tell you to avoid because there is something amiss with him.

This entire book he spoke about how he is the one that should impregnate not only Piper but the other human women that they rescue. I was ever this story as soon as he said that but in the same breath mentioned that he has a mate which was human. Like she would be okay with him going around making babies with just random women. 😒

He kept putting doubt into Jago's mind, the male MC, that there were times where he thought about allowing Cobra to do just a thing. I was completely shocked that Jago thought he was lacking. Come to find out he was not and Cobra just took a while to figure out what was going on.

They, Castian's, have finally found the person who caused all of their pain within this book. There were some great revelations that occured but they were outshined by Cobra, the creepy uncle.
