About this listen

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.

Jayne Frost is a lot of things. Winter elf, Jack Frost's daughter, Santa Claus's niece, heir to the Winter Throne, and now private investigator. Sort of.

Needing someone he can trust, her father sends her undercover to Nocturne Falls to find out why employees at the Santa's Workshop toy store are going missing.

Doing that requires getting to know the town, which leads to interesting encounters with a sexy vampire, an old flame, and an elevator that's strictly off-limits. The more Jayne finds out, the more questions she has, but the answers lead her deeper into danger.

Will her magic save her? Or will she come up cold?

Enjoyable, diet.

A bit lightweight, but quite entertaining. It's hard to rate a book like this because it's not intended to be a great literature, but as a cosy mystery it is an entertaining diversion.

In the same way that I get frustrated with critics who rate romantic comedies for being formulaic , I can't fault this book for being a bit light and fluffy.

It was entertaining and I will probably listen to the next. The choice of performer matched The this perfectly.

LOVED It!

Any additional comments?

This is a great book; this is the first book in the Jayne Frost Series by Kristen Painter and narrated by Hollis McCarthy. The series is a cross over book from the author’s popular Nocturne Falls series. Nocturne Falls, is a town that celebrates Halloween 365 days of the year. Jayne Frost is a winter elf, her dad happens to be Jack Frost and she is also Santa Claus’s niece. Her father and uncle need someone they can trust, so they send Jayne to Nocturne Falls to investigate why the elves that work at the Santa’s Workshop toy store keep disappearing. Jayne jumps at the chance to change her appearance so no one knows who she really is. If you are looking for a cute, fun mystery then you need to read this book. I can’t wait until the next book is out.

The narrator Hollis McCarthy did a wonderful job, and was very easy to listen too. She did a great job with the different characters and their voices.

If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author. Once I started listening to this book, I didn’t want to stop until the end.

A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review

Continuing with the series

I thought I read a review that claimed there were no love interests but there are actually 2 love interests. One is the ex and one is a new guy she meets. The love interests aren’t the center of attention in the book though which I thought was great! They’re just supplemental, but they make an appearance more than enough for me (I’m not a big fan of developing love interests). So it was okay for me. Overall though, the mystery was pretty good but more than anything I think it’s about her adjusting to her new life as someone else. Enjoyable and took me away to a different place so will continue with the series! Also the narrator is great! She makes the yawning or sniffing, etc sounds when appropriate!

Kristen Painter does it again!

This book, like the others in the Nocturne Falls series, hits it out of the park. It's a great story that I recommend to lovers of contemporary romance stories. Even if paranormal stories aren't your thing, I think you'll find this one isn't to far down the fantasy path that everyone can still enjoy it.

Loved the book. Simple easy reading with nice plot

Loved the book. I liked the narrator. She kept you hooked. The story is interesting and keeps you curious. Not the edge of the seat thriller but if you want a nice relaxing thriller with a little bit of romance added in, go for this book.
