About this listen

Searching for her missing brother, Grace Carlyle never dreamed she would discover a secret world populated by mythological monsters - or find herself facing a sword-wielding being whose looks put mortal men to shame. But there he was, Darius en Kragin, one of a race of shape-shifting warriors bound to guard the gates of Atlantis, and kill all travelers who strayed within its borders. Now Grace's life was in his hands, and Darius had to choose between his centuries-old vow and the woman who had slipped beneath his defenses and stolen the heart of Atlantis's fiercest dragon.©2009 Gena Showalter (P)2009 Audible, Inc. If you could sum up Heart of the Dragon in three words, what would they be?

Deep, hot, sexy. Meaning the story line in this novel sets the foundation for the other novels behind it. I have the set (purchased from Amazon Kindle) and have read them all. This one was the hardest one to get through reading. That said each one after just gets better and better. The last three were my favorites, funny and battle of the sexes. One type of Male dominated culture meets a modern day lady who is not going to take it.
Unfortunately not all of them are here otherwise I would say purchase them all and if they are like the books.... well lets just say they were all niter's that were worth the wait.

What did you like best about this story?

Male character has to put aside what he was raised to believe and go with his heart. We have all been there, when what you were raised with has to change.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I think this novel would have been better with a male and female narrator. I thought that the intro narrator was the who narrator the whole novel. I was disappointed in the narrator doing the male characters. Grace's southern accent came across as forced and slow.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

At first I really didn't like the female character, Grace came across as weak and silly. Later on I got to the point of cheering her on. Sometimes characters grow on you.

Any additional comments?

Audible needs to get the other books.

What made the experience of listening to Heart of the Dragon the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the transferring between the characters two minds sets and the fact that this book is based more from the male perspective then the standard female inner-monologue.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Heart of the Dragon?

The description of the bedroom and the water ceilings.

Entertaining listen

The auditory equivalent of reading a paperback romance novel you bought at the drugstore. Definitely not the worst I've read/listened to, but I found myself wanting to know more about the characters and wanting less dramatic accents. However, I really enjoyed the character dynamics and diversity. I think it could be the start of a series of character-focused books, but that's my preference.

Beta Test or Bust

Darius is a hot hero and the book was interesting. The narrator gave Grace a strong deep southern accent, which was true to form, but a bit annoying at times ( and I am from the south). Regardless, the book is good.

Everything would have been great had Grace not had a Southern accent! She came from new york. I don't recall her being a southern bell.In addition the voice and dialoge as a southern bell made her sound both childish & idiotic. It just ruined the experience for me. Everything else was great and top quality. I listened to part of mine and wont again. I prefer the book.

Good until Grace spoke

the reading was very stiff andI felt like I was in the library for story time. the story was ok. there were a LOT of moments I felt were not realistic in the characters extractions, like the things they said to each other. over all it was ok, although I wish I hadn't wasted a credit on it.

not very exciting. 😞
