About this listen

Real Doms terrify her, so Summer plays with lightweights only. And only in the safety of her club, Dark Haven. But on Western Night, the tough cop who wins her in a sub-roping game is as powerful as they come.

Virgil's first taste of BDSM was disturbingly enticing. Hoping to burn out his interest, he visits an infamous San Francisco club, where he wins himself the prettiest little submissive he's ever seen. He's in a quandary. A man shouldn't render a woman helpless, let alone spank her ass. But the nervous little submissive clearly loves being in his ropes. Her need to be controlled is as powerful as his need to control. So he indulges himself, and her.

That one night could be the beginning, but instead it's the end. She won't play outside the club and he lives too far to visit often. He'll just have to find a way to forget her or get her in his ropes to stay.

My Two Pennies

I actually want to give this book a 4.5 in the ratings. In this story we get more into Virgil and Summer, you remember Summer from the previous book while at the party her Dom was completely out of control and didn't stop when she used her safe word. Well we get to see what develops between these two. Virgil is new to the BDSM world and highly curious even though as an officer he feels that it's wrong to an extent. The connection between these two is safe, strong and beautiful. Summer has a fight within herself about trusting anyone after her previous experience. This was a great read and so happy with their story.

Kai Kenecott is a hideous narrator!

Everything she does sounds THE EXACT SAME! She even struggles to make different sounding characters...While I appreciate that she knows how to pour inflection into her voice, and she worked great for the Riley Murphy trilogy [Persuaded, Provoked, Pushed], the breathy quality and overly dramatic reading (@times) makes her very difficult to relate to with the different characters of this series. Please Ms. Sinclair, by the love of all that is holy, keep using Mr. Levine to narrate the remainder of your Shadowlands books, not Ms. Kennicott! I can't take listening to her screw up such a great series that a single guy [Levine] managed to create such an entire rich universe of vocal interpretations for...I can listen to him do a character and know who it is. I listen to Kenecott and cats tell who she is doing other than by the context/writing.

Another series by Cherise Sinclair that gets better as it evolves

As each story of the Mountain Masters/Dark Haven series is done they just get better. Summer and Virgil has to be one of my favorite and Ms. Sinclair has picked two incredible narrators for this series too. A must have audible series.

X

Another success
The author gives us another book with just the right amount of hot scenes, laughter and sweetness.
After a bad experience with a Dom Summer is holding back and play only with light Doms. Until Virgil shows up, and the sparks lights.
The storyline is good as always and the characters is well described.
I get to meet the characters from the previous books and love this family feeling
I'm floating in to the book and I love it.

Narrators:
Clear pronunciation and read with feelings

Beautiful

I loved this story to the moon and back. And the performances just added to the enjoyment of the story.

When I read I hear the characters but to actually hear the characters well it's amazing and Kai & Wen do an amazing job that really makes you feel as if you there with them.

So can't wait for the next one

Perfect Match

I think it was interesting to see someone who isn't even sure about his interest in BDSM have such a natural way with it. Also, to see someone who had some very real fears relax with this unknown Dom. It is reminder that books are fiction and in this fictional world sometimes the chemistry just clicks and two people seem fated for each other. That doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the story. I loved rooting for this couple. I love Summer feisty side and her strength when taking on the good doctor.

Good

Really nice novella about an inexperienced Dom and a sub with physical and emotional scars from abuse.

Loose Ends from Prior Stories Tied Up

I was so glad to see that Sinclair gave Summer her own story. I've been curious about her ever since reading what happened to her in Simon Says: Mine. It was a great idea to pair her up with Virgil from Master of the Abyss. It was wonderful to see him learn to accept who he was and to help Summer overcome her fear and trust issues. They made a great pair, and the narrators did a great job playing them.
