Half man, half angel, all soldier.

The souleaters will stop at nothing, even death, to uphold divine law. When duty brings Noah Kavanaugh into Nurse Caroline's path, he is unprepared for the intense desire igniting between them. Rejecting the impulse to take Caroline as his mate becomes unbearable. The limits of his own self-control are tested. So is his loyalty to the law he upholds.

A forbidden human, Caroline is determined to find a cure for the mysterious Noah's illness. With her blazing attraction to him, she'd willingly sacrifice her heart, body, even her life to end his suffering. However, can she bring herself to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to save them both?

Paranormal Romance, with emphasis on the romance!

Black Soul: The Forbidden Series, Book 1
By: Odessa Gillespie Black Narrated by: Terri England, Erik Johnson

Black Soul is definitely a Paranormal Romance, with emphasis on the romance! There is some morbid and evil parts braided into the romance, but the romance is the heart of it all. I wanted to put it down in the beginning, but almost halfway through the story, it started making sense and intrigued me. I enjoyed this book, but I’m not a fan of the big picture plot so I don’t really plan on looking for book 2. Overall, I rate Black Soul with 3 Boundless Stars; I liked it.

Good vs Evil

This is a real interesting world described. It has a array of emotions in this one. I look forward to more as this didn't have the finality I crave. Erik and Terri do a great job.

Has promise

I knew little of this book before listening to it, so it's no ones fault but my own that the content was not to my style. A little too much 'god' talk for my liking.
I also had an image in my head of the age of the characters so was suprised to realise that they were so young. The narration wasn't bad but not certain that it matched the characters as well as they could have. However when Eric made his character sound angry, well that voice was candy to the ears.
This book I think was a bit too YA in style for myself but I think it would suit others well.

Great book

I really enjoyed this story. I felt so bad for Noah and loved watching his relationship with Caroline grow. It is full of humor, intrigue and suspense. I laughed and cried throughout the whole book. I highly recommend it

I thought it was a bit much

There are many things I liked about this story. It is the classic story of the battle between good and evil. Though it is a well-written story, there is a lot going on as the story develops. At times, I had a bit of trouble following the story.

I particularly liked the relationship between the brothers. The relationship between the hero/heroine, though, I never really felt an emotional connection to them. Though the plot is a good one, it felt like it got a little out of hand, too complicated and with too much going on, to stay focused on the main point of the story. I ended up losing interest in the final outcome.

Letting go of the past.

This book is well written a real fire 🔥 bomb. Odessa Gillespie Black has a way with words that will keep you on your toes from the first page. Black soup is filled with love, honor, duty, death, betrayal and heartbreak. I can't wait to hear or read more from her. Well worth the price.

Loved this story!

I was given this story (audiobook) for an honest review. On that note, this was a good story! It was different and held my attention the entire time I listened to it. While I've read stories relating to souleaters the author was able to add her own touch to the characters, which made it stand out from anything I've read/listened to in the past. I'm definitely curious to find out what happens next for Noah and Caroline. I can't wait for book 2 to come (if it hasn't already).

This was the first audiobook I've listened to that involved two separate narrators. My only issue with the narration was when Noah was reading the newspaper and the male narrator changed his voice to sound like a newscaster (as though Noah was watching tv instead of reading). While this was just a small hiccup, I noticed it, but overall, I feel the two narrators worked well together.

Questions/Comments about the story:

I found it strange that Caroline wasn't, raising hell after finding out her mother, Gurdie, had been killed, especially since she had been decapitated. There seemed to be little to no reaction from her.

I was surprised by Caroline's age. I remember when Noah first saw Caroline he had described her as being young, but I would never have guessed she was only 19.

If the other souleaters in Amon's initial group hated him so much, why hadn't any of them tried to kill him? On that note, how was Caroline able to do it so easily?
