About this listen

Hart Jarrett was only supposed to be passing through Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He wasn’t supposed to get involved, no emotional entanglements to tie him down. Setting down roots was never part of the plan, not until he opened himself up to love. Too bad the man he bet on bailed and left Hart holding the ranch. There were two choices after that: run away, or stay and build something real from nothing.

Nearly six years later, Hart has created a home and a life he never expected, with the help of his best friend and foreman, Morgan Brace. The ranch is thriving thanks to its loyal men and strong ties to the community. But there’s a snake in the garden, and it takes many forms. There’s a dead man on Hart’s property, a man he knows, and the questions are piling up. As if that weren’t enough, his ex has reappeared out of the blue, with plans to reclaim what he willingly gave.

And, to make matters worse, it appears Morgan is finally taking his dating life seriously.

Everything Hart has built is unraveling.

The life Hart wants doesn’t work without Morgan in it. Imagining a future without Morgan, him turning elsewhere for love and coming in second to someone else in Morgan’s heart - as well as his bed - is almost unbearable. So maybe, just maybe, the answer lies in Hart confessing that he loves Morgan more than life itself.

If Hart gambles and loses, will he even still want the life he’s worked so hard to build?

Greg Boudreaux + Mary equals Magic

Greg's acting, as always (the best of ANY voice actor working today-- no contest. check him out ), and Mary's ability to show the best kind of love between two people and the people in their lives. it never fails to blow me away and fill my heart with the best vibes. it's beautiful. while spicy, it's never crass or gratuitous. these two put out some of the best work available in audible form and on page. check out Muscle & Bone and pretty much anything Greg does and anything she does. it's the best!

Excellent Story with A Sexy Romance!

A great author, paired with a great narrator, could only produce a great story!! Thoroughly enjoyed the journey of our MC's, through hard times & well deserved victories, to their beautiful union and resolutions.

Just the right amount of angst, bad guys, and sexual bliss to keep it interesting! On to her next book.....

One of my favorites.

Love this story. I’ve listened to it multiple times and read it multiple times.
Wonderful storyline of redemption and love.

And I love the hints of magic throughout.

Great!

If you love her books and loved the “Timing” series, this is perfect. Greg Boudreaux (Tremblay) is one of my favorites and as usual is a pleasure to listen to.
My one complaint - I needed a concrete set up to the next book. I really hope we visit this ranch again!

Classic MC but...

I enjoyed this as I always enjoy Mary Calmes books and Greg Boudreaux is amazing as always.

However, like others I have one big content issue: No consequences for illegal, dangerous and violent behavior.

I get the tactic of making your MC the "bigger man" by having them forgive and forget, but this is not healthy or even believable. 1) the trauma that comes from being the victim of domestic violence isn't something you just get over. And even when you do, you don't just chat casually with your abuser especially when they gaslight you like Lee did.

Also several instances of attempted murder and assault just *poof* because they apologized and we're super sorry about it? Not realistic for one. Two, These are incredibly violent, unstable and dangerous men who at the least need a restraining order and therapy but more likely need jail time.

Worse than that, Hart's refusal to press charges and willingness to trust these violent men is painted as annoying but mostly endearing. THIS is not ok and dropped the story to a low three for me. If someone beats your or pulls a gun on you, PRESS CHARGES!

POWERFUL!

This story was prodigious and SIZZLING! I COULDN'T stop listening. The narrator really brought this story to life. I was laughing and crying throughout the story. The love and warmth the two main characters brought me to tears.

wonderful redition

I adore Mary Calmes' books, this one not being an exception. Greg Boudreaux does an excellent job with differentiating all the voices and I never once had to figure out who was talking, - a huge pet peeve of mine. The story itself is one of my favorite trope, the "oblivious main character" and I love the quirk of a ranch owner being a vegetarian. Morgan is gruff and stoic and the perfect foil for Hart. A great addition to the Mary Calmes library.
