Within the ruthless hierarchy of the mafia, Dav and Cinna reign as powerful capos within the same crime family.
Dav, with his gregarious charm and flirtatious disposition, hides a secret darkness that few ever glimpse. Despite his relentless advances, Cinna, strong-willed and fiercely independent, keeps him at arm's length, determined to prove herself an equal in a male-dominated world.
One night, Cinna's resolve is fractured when she is brutally attacked, leaving her shattered. Desperate to maintain her hard-earned respect amongst her family, she seeks out Dav, the only person she feels she can trust, begging for his help and swearing him to secrecy.
As she recovers under his protective care, a slow-building chemistry finally ignites between them, leading to a passionate encounter that leaves them both reeling.
But Cinna's fears push her to erect walls around her heart, leaving Dav behind as she hunts for her assailant.
Yet, destiny keeps drawing them together, and with each dangerous step towards uncovering the truth, their growing feelings become impossible to ignore…

The first chapter, Cynna's vulnerability, and strength, as she stries to get out of the warehouse, the narrators voice showcases her fear, and weariness, and her knowledge that if she doesn't get out she could - no WILL - die.
I love Dav's tenderness with her, both at the beginning, and as their relationship strengthens and matures, how he holds back - almost hiding how much he wants her so she doesn't run away again.
Cynna's natural presence and humor as she laughs at Joel when he tries to tell her his name is Spike, and she buys food and another door so he has a reason to stay at her house and not outside his parents.
I love the male narrators ability to flip the switch for Dav when he has to go in and get Cynna, and he finally let's his demons out to play. Jessica Gadziala knows how to intertwine these characters perfectly so they're saving each other, and neither one is dominant over the other.
Cynna is probably one of my favorite characters in the Five Families, and more importantly the Lombardi Family series. Her strength is so important, but so too is her ability to be caring toward Joel and Lip, and to show her intense love for Dav.🖤 Absolutely five stars for narration and an EXQUISITE book made all the better by the narrators.
