Publisher's summary

Renowned author Delphine Larue needs a haven. A crazed fan has gone over the deep end, and she’s not safe. Her security team has suggested a house by a lake. Secluded. Private. Far away. In a beautiful area of the Northwest close to the sleepy town of Misted Pines. It’s perfect. So perfect, Delphine has just moved in, and she’s thinking she’ll stay there forever.

Until she sees the girl in the mist.

After that, everything changes.

Delphine quickly learns that Misted Pines isn’t so sleepy. A little girl has gone missing, and the town is in the grips of terror and tragedy. The local sheriff isn’t up for the job. The citizens are up in arms. And as the case unfolds, the seedy underbelly of a quiet community is exposed, layer by layer.

But most importantly, girls are dying.

There seems to be only one man they trust to find out what’s happening.

The mysterious Cade Bohannan.

KA never disappoints

KA gets me so involved with family dynamics that I truly feel I know these people personally and I just had such a wonderful visit. I’m always bereft when the book ends unless it’s one of the series and I have the next one download and ready to go.
Love you KA. Please never stop writing.

One of my Very Fave KA

Romantic Suspense done very well Kristen Ashley style. I came to her books rather late - with Audible offering her Fantasyland and Ghosts series in the Romance Club, then featuring her The Rising series over the months. In checking if I reviewed this book that I’ve listened to maybe 5x, I found out I now have 72 KA books!?! Yes, I took advantage of Audible sales.
This book can be read as a stand-alone, but the beginning of the story references Hawk Delgado, Mo & Axel, so you can get a degree of enjoyment for the link to KA’s Dream Man & Dream Team series.
Delphine LaRue is the former star of a long running TV series who gave it up for writing. She’s survived two marriages and raised two ‘perfect’ young women but has now moved to Misted Pines while the FBI hunts her stalker. Her neighbor Cade Bohannan is a former FBI Profiler who has gone into the private sector, and with his sons provides protection. The attraction is instant but they choose to go slowly while also being drawn into a local abduction and murder. The only part that felt unauthentic or out of sync was the scene where Bohannan tells LaRue that his divorce is final but he’s not interested in getting married. It doesn’t work for me after making an earlier point of providing an example to Celeste of no sexy private times while she was around. Yes, LaRue moved in but there was no sitting Celeste down for a conversation on how L&B have made a commitment to each other. Oh well.
Note: The very last line of the book is a teaser statement that makes you wonder if there will be “a sequel “.

I’m so happy with Huber’s narration. She is a great choice for Deli - sounds like the right age and lively with it. As a bonus, she does a great job voicing the various characters and emotions.

My new Favorite.

A book where the 50+ couple are smart, successful and have realized their weaknesses are not worth their time. Brilliantly written, this is my favorite Kristen Ashley book. The characters complimented each other and there was an acceptance of those around them. There was no "I have this issue I need to work through" amongst the main couple. They accepted who each other were and that was enough. The drama happened around and to them and not because of them. Loved it.

Still Awesome

I'm a big fan and your mystery was very well written. The issue I have is that it sounded like a Rock Chicks story. Manly pauses and silences and then a grunted reply in teaching type moment. I do enjoy your writing style, but was expecting something different with your venture into mystery. would I still have bought it? Yes! You always keep me interested. keep up the great work.

Not my usual type

I loved it. So much in one book but not all over the place. It would make a movie, but I'm sure the writers converting it to script would screw it up.

I am an avid reader and I have never left a review

I do realize that is should review books more often, but to be honest, I never really think about it.
Hillary Huber + Delphine LaRue= perfection
The tone of this book is exactly how I would imagine LaRue.
Kristen, I love The Girl in the Mist. (Also Girl in the Woods)
I read all of your work and always will. I’m know you hear it all of the time but there it is.

Disappointed ...

I love KA I really do, but I really struggled to finish this book. The story had so many time jumps and the couple/familial relationships happened soooo fast. At times, I had to stop and go back because I felt I missed a few "pages." The FMC annoyed me a bit. Her rambling thought processes left me wondering what just happened. She was proferring advice to a father on how to discipline his daughter and handle a situation at her school, a few minutes after she had met him. Did I miss something? Was she a psychologist/counselor or something? I don't know, maybe it's just me. She's was a bit judgmental a few times about people/things she knew nothing about. Also, no real build-up to the stalker issue. No real relationship development ... it was just there all of a sudden. I'll try a re-read, maybe that will help.
