About this listen
Oedipus...Freud’s favorite whipping boy...Ernest Jones’ ridiculous rationale for Hamlet’s mom-and-pop obsessions...and the most famous motherf--ker of them all....
Pity the ultra-discombobulated prince of Corinth, hoping for Delphic reassurance. Goggle-eyed oracle gawks and gasps his way, babbles her bullshit, and drops dead. A blasphemous bloke who claims oracles suck wind, Delphi worst of all, convinces Oedipus to head home instead of fleeing.
There, they run headlong into the fecundity-drenched Festival of Demeter. Super-hot Queen Jocasta and her hateful, tiny-dicked hubby come a-visiting from Thebes. Makes the young prince’s pecker stand tall.
He’s lost in bewilderment around Mom and Pop. And in a night of pitch-dark bedchambers and bare-naked thighs, a flurry of bed swaps lands them all in exceedingly compromising positions.
How will our poor lad’s turmoils end? Who the f--k knows? Well actually, the blind bard knows. And trust me, this ain’t your great-grampa’s Homer, no way, no how!
F--k the Trojan War. To hell with storm-tossed Odysseus, the man of twists and turns. This Eros-inspired epic’ll have you twisting and turning, tossed in storms of ecstasy, as singlehandedly you listen and moan and marvel!

With more than two million copies of her novels sold, New York Times best-selling author Geraldine Brooks has achieved both popular and critical acclaim. Now, Brooks takes on one of literature's richest and most enigmatic figures: a man who shimmers between history and legend. Peeling away the myth to bring David to life in Second Iron Age Israel, Brooks traces the arc of his journey from obscurity to fame, from shepherd to soldier, from hero to traitor, from beloved king to murderous despot and into his remorseful and diminished dotage.

In 1632, the Emperor of Hindustan, Shah Jahan, overwhelmed with grief over the death of his beloved wife, Mumatz Mahal, commissioned the building of a grand mausoleum to symbolize the greatness of their love. The story surrounding the construction of the Taj Mahal occurs, however, against a scrim of fratricidal war, murderous rebellion, unimaginable wealth, and, not least of all, religious fundamentalism ruthlessly opposing tolerance and coexistence between the disparate peoples in the empire.

After centuries of conflict, a peace treaty has finally been drawn between the warring Saxons and Norse—largely due to the wisdom and bravery of the legendary Viking leader Wolf Hakonson and the noble warrior Lord Hawk. Hawk and Wolf each married women from warring clans to unite the Saxons and Norse. But for all its blessings, the promise of peace will remain fragile—unless it can be sealed forever by a third and final marriage between these two proud clans.

She is both stunned and fascinated by this man’s bluntness, his arrogance, his absolute belief that she is meant to belong to him. He also makes her laugh and ultimately she gives him her trust, not only with her future but with that of her little sister, Lotti. But Zarabeth’s stepfather, Olav the Vain, has no intention of setting a bride price on Zarabeth.

Story
This is the story of the relationship between two grieving men at war: fierce Achilles, who has lost his beloved Patroclus in the siege of Troy; and woeful Priam, whose son Hector killed Patroclus and was in turn savaged by Achilles. A moving tale of suffering, sorrow, and redemption, Ransom is incandescent in its delicate and powerful lyricism and its unstated imperative that we imagine our lives in the glow of fellow feeling.

Story
Alexander's beauty, strength and defiance were apparent from birth, but his boyhood honed those gifts into the makings of a king. His mother, Olympias, and his father, King Philip of Macedon, fought each other for their son's loyalty, teaching Alexander politics and vengeance from the cradle. His love for the youth Hephaistion taught him trust, while Aristotle's tutoring provoked his mind and Homer's Iliad fuelled his aspirations.

not sure of this one
Familiar with the oedipus complex, the background story but not all of the story. I thought this one would give light to the background story. I thought it was a poem with a story but eventually there were more stories of what happened in Oedipus life. There were scenes that suported the background history but there was a lot of debauchery and death. This was a sad story for me.I was also looking for some goodness/lesson from the story and I am still looking/trying to remember (either I couldn't find one or there wasn't any).
I received a copy and gicing my honest review of this
