About this listen

Kade and Hunter Caruthers.

Brothers. Twins.

My cousins.

In a way, they’re my family. Protective. Indulgent. My best friends. But there was something else there, too. That ever-present whisper that reminded me more as I got older that we didn’t actually share any blood.

They used to be inseparable. We all were, but not anymore. I don’t know why Hunter left or why he joined a rival team in Weston—that Rebel town across the river—to stand on the opposite side of the field from his brother, but Kade is out for blood now, and Hunter has finally decided to engage.

Rivalry Week.

Parades. Parties. Pranks.

And the Prisoner Exchange.

Weston will send a hostage to our school, and they’re taking me. I’m Hunter’s for two weeks. In a dilapidated brownstone on a nearly abandoned street with almost no supervision.

Ten days in an enemy school. Fourteen nights in a town full of bullies with no curfews and no rules.

And Hunter has no intention of protecting his little cousin anymore.

The Pirates will come for me. How can they not? A Pirate never sits out on the fun.

But I never needed protection or rescue, because a Pirate never runs, either.

Revelations revealed

Ok Penelope Douglas I see you....As I kept reading along, I realized she had characters from Credence in this one, now it makes me feel like I need to recheck Falls Boys to see if I missed something. Noah was completely unexpected as he told Dillon what lead him to the Falls.

Anyway MC's loved them. I enjoy when you read books and you see how things come full circle as the characters continue to grow after each epilogue. Dillon and Hunter have a great story together and throw Caden in who you think is a complete tool until you read the essay he submitted on Hunter's behalf for college. I like the way Jax and Fallen let her twins navigate through what their issues were. I am always all in on the Best Friends to Lover Trope which is what Hunter and Dillon are. They both want to be seen by the people around them and as the story goes on you realize as they realize they both have
misinterpreted the feelings they have for the other, and when they become each others first there is still so much second guessing, jealousy and misunderstanding they will eventually work out with each other and Caden.

Great series.

Characters & Storyline!

If I could give this more than 5 stars, I absolutely would! Dylan Trent’s story is top notch & the suspense of Weston’s history kept me on my toes. I enjoy anything by Penelope, but I’m really looking forward to seeing how the rest of this series plays out.

I don’t want to wait for Hellbent 3!

Penelope Douglas has been the only author to keep my attention with this kind of plot style/pattern. I can absolutely see how P. Douglas stories can garner deep interest from a reader that is closer to the age of the MCs than myself. But she really shines in her ability to tug on strings of nostalgia for her more mature readers and weave a story that still creates that attachment to the characters and their hijinks.

Good plot

It’s a good spin off. Hunter’s story was good. And loved how their relationship evolved as twins, although there wasn’t a lot of parallels between the old story and Dylan’s other than the fact that Hunter was a twin.
I couldn’t stand the female narrator. I hate leaving negative reviews about narrator, but her male narrating vouce was especially irritating. I almost DNF’d the audio and decided to just read. Missed Abby Craden in this book. The male narrator wasn’t that much better either. Penelope Douglas, please use better narrators.
I cant wait for Quinn’s book. Please use good narrators for that book!

Loved this one

I super loved this one. Hunter & Dylan were so good together! He falls first. Spice was on point. I can’t wait to see how this mystery sub-plot unfolds as the books go on. I need the next one like now. Step cousins, friends to rivals to lovers, HEA.

It was a great story!

Penelope Douglas did another great job. I loved Hunter. He was the sweetest! In some pints, I was kicking my feet and squealing.

Not the most exciting in the series but still a great read

The story line of this just wasn't her best. Don't get me wrong all her books are good and I would still recommend it as it's still a good read. Hunter was the nice guy in this story which is a nice change from the other guys in the books but... sometimes the nice guys just miss the spot a bit 😂. Both hunter and Dylan come from great families and quite privileged lives and sometimes it's hard to create characters with depth when there's not many challenges that they have had to endure. Penelope Douglas has a great way of creating characters that have beautiful flaws and it's so enjoyable to read about them. These guys just didn't have those.

Yassss

I don’t know why I waited so long to start this but I do know I finished both books in one day and it got me out of a huge book slump. Thank goodness. Can’t wait for all these
