About this listen

My world isn't safe. The northern gate lies open, and monsters roam the land. Towns are locked behind walls, protected by the emperor and his Black Army. Once, a fated priestess and her four guardians kept the gate sealed with magic, but there hasn't been a priestess in over a century...or so I thought.

When a monster attacks me within the walls of my village, I am saved by Sir Forrest - the quiet former soldier who came to Istim three years ago. Turns out he's been watching me. Waiting for my powers to awaken. I am the fated priestess. But there have been others. The genius commander Abel and the Black Army have killed them all. Sir Forrest found out the truth, and now he is driven by his sacred mission to help me find my guardians and bring me to the gate. All I have to do? Find them and join with them in the Grand Quintet to grant them the powers I apparently hold, close the gate, and save the world...without suffering the same dire fate as the priestesses who came before me.

I've always liked attention...but this is too much.

Contains mature themes.

Narration Was Perfect

This book knows what it did, and it isn't sorry. I quite like that about it.

Lauren Sweet quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators. She switches between distinct characters very effectively, and shifts back to the window character's voice without a hitch. Also her delivery is compelling and entertaining. 10/10 would listen to her again.

It’s a mix feelings book

Summary
Young Woman turns out to be a priestess of sorts. Who will save the world. Finds it out when her guardian protect her from a monster. She is given a book explaining her duties of laying on her back. Then they set out to find the other 3 men. Which they have no idea they will be a guardian in love with the priestess.

My review book one
So the baseline story is not the best. The priestess main duty is to be screwed by 4 men. She has no powers of her own. She can’t have children cause of this power. Every time she marks a man. They fall in love with her kinda. No matter what there relationship status is or there life goals. Which kind of sucks and comes off kinda rapey.
The book comes off bland in the action at times and awkward at others. There’s something more to the story which keeps you listening. But they basically make you feel like nothing more will happen. Like they list all the life goals in first chapters. Find men, open gate, screw them. This is your book you’re listening to. It’s kinda weird you have to open the gate by screwing.
There is something more to the story. But you need to listen to other book. This book is a small part in the story.

Would I recommend this book?
I’m on the fence about this. This book I would not re listen to I believe. But listening to bits from the second book. I realize the main issue with this book is they don’t give enough out. Feeling they put out is this is a cheap porn with bad storyline. If this book was not free. I probably would have stopped. But listening to more. I am intrigued into hearing the outcome of the story. It has a lot more coming up in second book.

So I recommend you judge for yourself. This is not a storyline for all. Some people could not get past the idea of lots of sex and the way it’s conveyed. Like you must do it and no options for you. Not forced, but like you have one option or people might live crappy lives. If you can make it to the second book, you will understand more. But does not mean you will start to like it. Just means there more to the odd storyline.
I would not state this is a romance book, but it has parts that are sex scenes where characters grow closer but I don’t feel romantic thinking on it. Has some action parts that are short and sometimes glossed over. In reality, everything gets better in book 2. I edited my review after listening to parts of book 2. Just because I realized. I misunderstood part.
Issue with book one is they give you a bit of the story when I feel like they should’ve gave him a lot more to keep the listener hooked. The base story is still really odd but now I wanna figure out how this story ends with the upcoming twist.

Narrators
Troy Duran does not have parts in this book Or least not that I remember. But the female reader is great as always. Troy has a lot more reading in book two. They do make a great team and also are great on their own.

Author
I have been binging her books this week and I am liking most of her books. She is great at cliff hangers and you always never know everything till the last book. She is great at twist.

the premise is hilarious

never read a romance book, and Im not entirely sure this is a genre for me, but I gotta say this was very amusing. the concept of how her powers work is preposterous, even for a fantasy novel, but it's so entertaining. likeable characters, the main plot was interesting enough to keep me listening despite me finding out that spicy scenes aren't my personal thing too.

OMG

Holy Cow... this chick has a magic
Jay-Jay! The only way the world can be saved is by using that magic Jay-Jay with her four Guardians! I think I might have enjoy this story if there was more to the story then the nightly Magic Jay-Jay!
I didn't finish the story, I just couldn't take it. Maybe I'll go back to the story another time. I really want to know what happened to the flying cat. But I think I can only take the magic Jay-Jay in small doses.
The narrator did a superb job!!

Ideology

This book is really pushing the narrative of multiple partners. There’s a lot of really gross stuff in it. But how it could mentally impact a young adult makes it disgusting. If you are not enough for your partner then you deserve better. If your partner is not enough for you then they deserve better. Everyone deserves to enough for their partner.

Very Strange

Im on the fence with this story so far, it takes off super abruptly. You go from this young small town girl, to here is a book on foursomes, read up and we will find your other men. Phoebe herself is a pretty sad FMC. She is kind of pretty, used to sing, has some sexual knowledge and apparently transfers power through sex. Thats her big secret magic ability. She has 4 guardians who each have a specific "channel" where they have to put it to get the most power from her. This part literally made me laugh out loud!! Halfway through I debated stopping but then we met guardians 3 and 4 who have the dark shadow ability, so I may continue. The sex scenes are long and detailed even with her stupidity mixed in. Honestly though this should be a 3 for 1 credit deal.. I hate the thought of wasting 3 credits on a mediocre series. It would also be a lot better with dual narration!!
