I loved it. Realistic, brutally beautiful. I'll be reading this author again. I loved the audio. it really captured the complexity of the dark side.

Amazing!

Would you listen to Self: You, the Monster and Me again? Why?

Yes, certainly. The slow build catches me every time. I've listened to this story while making supper, while driving a good stretch, and while lying alone in the dark. Each time I notice new things, and the impact hits at varying places. For the first, the domesticity of the setup and how such a small ordinary day can be hiding deep currents. As for the second, it was a good time to think about male sexuality and what dominance and submission bring to a relationship. The last? Just plain fun. It's certainly good for that, too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I do love the monster. He is terrifying and insistent, and he's wounded and brave. He wants to survive. It's hard to find a way to survive when you aren't necessarily wanted, or even when you are, if you don't fit easily into a tidy little world. The narrator and the partner are complex individuals, but the monster is just blunt force and need. How that works out between the three of them in the dark of the mind and the bedroom takes the full 35 minutes to explore.

Which scene was your favorite?

I always seem to remember the setup of the dinner. The selection of the suit (and I really want to know the exact color alluded to), the choice of what to cook for her, the domestic duties knocked off one by one. It was preparation, and it was planning, and it was the perfect insistence of the monster to set out every last piece on the chessboard.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did, each time I listened. It's hard to stop that roller coaster.

Any additional comments?

This piece is more than worth the price. It stands up to repeated listening, and you'll find yourself going back for more. It's also perhaps the best introduction to this author's work currently available here.

A threesome in all of the darknesses

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It's BDSM erotica at it's best. The story is good, it's written by a Dom, told from the POV of a Dom, and read by a Dom. THIS is what really good bdsm erotica audiobooks should sound like.

The premise of the story is the inner workings of a Dom in a relationship with a sub. It focuses on the two competing personas within him: the boyfriend and the Dom. When the girlfriend comes home, expecting one thing, she's in for a surprise...

What was one of the most memorable moments of Self: You, the Monster and Me?

The end,- it concluded the whole story nicely, and gave an opening for a possible continuation.

What does The Grey Knight bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His absolutely amazing, sexy voice. The way he gives commands as the Dom...is just dreamy. His voice brings the whole story to life and makes you feel like he's talking directly to you.
Other audiobooks are often just read out loud, without any feeling, especially bdsm erotica. In that way, I find them very lacking. This, this is what I want hear when listening to bdsm erotica. Listening to the book, I felt like I was in the room, with him.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I'll listen to it many more times.

Any additional comments?

His voice made me get tingly sensations on the back of my neck. I'll be listening to this audio over and over again, I can guarantee that.

LOVED IT. Tremendous work. His voice is pure sin. The idea of a man taking full control sexually is very stimulating for some women.

I never buy short audiobooks but i was curious about this one (it was only 35mins). I was expecting something gritty, sexy, and a bit dirty but I felt the dom was just kinda mean. I expected him to be firm and well dominant, but boning her into pain only to keep going seemed a bit dickish to me.

I may give this author a second chance if another audio comes on audible...we'll see.
