Publisher's summary

Something inhuman is stalking the frigid Alaskan wilds, leaving unspeakable carnage in its wake. For bush pilot Alexandra Maguire, the killings stir memories of a horrific event she witnessed as a child and evoke in her the inexplicable sense of otherness she has long felt within herself but never fully understood...until a darkly seductive stranger with secrets of his own enters her world.

Sent from Boston on a mission to investigate the savage attacks and stop the slaughter, vampire warrior Kade has his own reasons for returning to the frigid, forbidding place of his birth. Haunted by a secret shame, Kade soon realizes the stunning truth of the threat he faces - a threat that will jeopardize the fragile bond he has formed with the courageous, determined young woman who arouses his deepest passions and most primal hungers. But in bringing Alex into his world of blood and darkness, Kade must confront both his own personal demons and the even greater evil that could destroy all he holds dear.

Another Good Story

I love all the Breed Stories thus far. Lara Adrian does an excellent job of telling her story. The heroine in this story bothered me some, she was somewhat flighty, especially when dealing with the sheriff and her knowledge of what he was doing. Also chasing a guy who was running with a wolf pack. Not smart at all. A good story though.

Alaska resident loves this Book

Perfect , unique location made this believable. Pit bulls aren't portrayed accurately in the beginning.

Blazing hot story in frigid Alaska

Where does Shades of Midnight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Definitely one of my favorites, both within the Breed series, and for my audio collection in general. A book I've listened to more than once.

What did you like best about this story?

It's a really interesting story about family dynamics, going home, and doing the right thing even when it isn't easy.

Have you listened to any of Hillary Huber’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I've listened to other Breed books that she's narrated. Performance quality is high for them all, so I can't rank a preference there.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Wild animals aren't the only Alaskan predators.

Surprising!

I have been enjoying this series tremendously. I really was delighted to see Kade’s and Alex’s journey to their love and mating. I don’t think that will be the last we see or hear about the ancient though, especially since he left Alex’s best friend with this unexplained gift of speaking an ancient language, yet not understanding it herself.

Enter...The Ancient!

Things really come to a head in this book! Mostly everything comes together and is the ultimate set up for the next books love story (which I think of obvious even without checking out the next books summary 😊), plus we get to experience the ancient in action.

I have my Favorites of this series... particularly Niko and my girl Renata's book! But this book stood out, too, right from the start. The movie in my mind began and it just went from there!

MUST read! This is part 1 of the beginning of the end of the FIRST part of the Midnight Breed series. SO looking forward to the next book!

Good story, but heroine lacking common sense.

Possible spoilers! I enjoyed this story, but I've got to say, the heroine sometimes stunned me with her lack of survival instinct. Like when she chases a naked, bloody, man she thinks is Cade through the woods, even knowing what he is. Even worse, when she's in the sheriff's home and accuses him of being a drug supplier. She says all sorts of stuff to him, then is shocked when he tries to shoot her! Despite that, I still liked the story and the narrator did an adequate job. I would have preferred it if Cade's voice had been a bit lower.
