About this listen

Netto was a Cyborg, a protector, and a contracted mercenary. His specialty was the water: shallows, salt water, and open oceans across the universe. He was also a freak forged from the DNA of a bull shark-blue-gray skin, a body built with power, and a double-set of razor-sharp teeth. His nomadic lifestyle came to a halt when his old employer, the Earthian Planetary Exploration Division, offered him his old job back.

Rylie was born and raised on the planet Kepler, on an agri-lot that farmed jewels from the sea. But something was happening to her family's lots and people were disappearing. When a giant Cyborg showed up at her settlement and struck a deal with her father, she was forced to follow the stranger out onto the water, into the dangers of the alien deep, and far beyond the sight of land. She feared the Cyborg. She feared his teeth. But she feared the monsters in the water more.

Contains mature themes.

A good surprise !

This book was highly entertaining. Really! I loved it, not so much because of the hero/heroïne, but because of their more manipulative, take no prisoners sidekicks. Especially the no nonsense Janet. She and Zeph had more personality and less self-confidence issues than the Netto/Riley couple. And am I delighted that Janet/Zeph have got their book. Will be reading it !

Fun story!

Great listen! Very entertaining- like a Hollywood movie. Story was interesting and characters were fun and easy to like. This is now probably one of my favorites in this genre.

Great addition to this series!!

I absolutely love this series! It has lots of action as well as lots of steam. It is about a beautiful but socially awkward women and a disturbingly handsome half shark, half man cyborg. All his life Netto has been used as a hunter/killer and never as the protector. However, when he first meets Riley he knows he will do anything to make sure she and her family are kept safe even if it means his mission does not succeed. I listened to this book through Audible Escape and cannot wait for the next in the series.

Shark shifter and water girl!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏
Character development: 😤😥😊🤩

The heroine: Riley - she is a loner who works for her family on the Earthen planet Kepler which is mainly water. Unlike her sister Janet, who sleeps with all the men on the planet, Riley likes to stay close to home and work. Riley doesn’t see her ending up with any man, because she doesn’t want a man who has been with her sister and they all have been.

The Hero: Netto - a Cyborg, he was made from a human, a bull shark and a lot of technology. He works for the government and he is tasked with working out a mystery on the planet Kepler for a family who farms gems from the ocean. The gems are melted down and used to make an impenetrable glass that is used for spaceships, ocean vessels and many other things. The government sent he and his pal Zeph to figure out what is going on in exchange for a good rate on the gems.

The Story: When the two Cyborg shifters come to help discover what is wrong with their crops of Gems, Riley is wary of them but attracted to the big blue man. Several things have been happening on Kepler as of late. First of which is that some people have been disappearing without a trace, also their crops of gems have been cloudy lately. The gems used to be clear, but over time, they have all been cloudy and mostly unusable.

With Netto being created partially from Shark DNA and Zeph from Crocodile DNA, they are the perfect Cyborgs to help on this planet which is mostly water. This was an extremely original storyline and I liked that. In addition to the mystery about what is going on in the water.

The book is told in dual points of view via dual narration. The narrators were Hollie Jackson and Alexander Cendese. I am used to Hollie Jackson as a narrator, since she has done most of the Ice Planet Barbarian’s books and she does a good job, though she is not one of my favorite female narrators, she is good at showing emotion through her speech. Alexander Cendese has a deep sexy voice which worked well for Netto.

Almost DNF because it was boring and silly

I was bored even with all the sea monster action. I hated the old man and woman voices for the parents - they had a 6 year old daughter so at oldest they were likely 50ish, not 70+. I swear the male narrator made the mother sound like she was 90. Aside from the narration, the story just dragged. Maybe it was the shy/autism tropes but it was just painful having it recounted many times from both main characters. What really all but ended it for me was the hymen virginity situation. A woman who admittedly pleasured herself but just hadn't been with another person, who was physically active, magically made it to adulthood needing this guy to break it for her first time - wtf. Like I know this was written in the 2010s so virginity tropes were still going strong, but this just defied science and logic.

Honestly, my favorite parts of this book were the side characters Zeph and Janet. I'll likely read their book on Kindle just to close out the series for myself to make this spent time worth it.

Male Narrator for female dialog

Male Narrator, Alexander Cendese, during female dialog makes it sound like the girls are whiny blond 13 year old girls. Was very distracting.
