About this listen

England, 1536. Lord Wolf, hardened soldier and expert lover, has come to King Henry VIII's court to claim his new bride: a girl who has intrigued him since he first saw her riding across the Yorkshire moors.

Eloise Tyrell, now lady-in-waiting to Queen Anne Boleyn, has other ideas. She has no desire to submit to a man she barely knows and who - though she is loath to admit it - frightens her more than a little. Then comes that first kiss. It awakens in both a fierce desire that bares them to the soul. But as the court erupts into scandal around the ill-fated queen, Eloise sees firsthand what happens when powerful men tire of their wives. Dare she surrender her body and her heart?

Critic reviews

"For a terrific historical romance with a couple who can't keep their hands off each other, this is perfect." ( RT Book Reviews)

Doing the audible challenge and reading something from each category isn’t as easy as one might think. I am not a huge fan of historical romance, but I am going in open minded.

That being said I really enjoyed this book. Eloise isn’t a timid female in the least, she might be a little naive about somethings but she sure learns fast.

I like that it wasn’t love at first sight and that Lord Wolf and Eloise had to get to know each other he might have been all, I MAN and everything but when it comes right down to it he was very in tuned to her and I liked that.

Trust didn’t happen right away or even for quite a long time and I think that made me like this book because to me that was very believable and not so farfetched.

I really enjoyed the narration too; the accents and the tone she uses were perfect for this story.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

There is so much right with this book. The history is brilliant, and beautifully emotional. The tension between Wolf and Eloise is just fantastic. The chemistry is perfection, and the steamy scenes are just perfection. The characters are well written and develop beautifully. I'm definitely going to continue the series... The narration really brings the story to life.

Beautifully done.

this book was a very slow starter but overall a good book and very sensual too.

As typical of most Tudor romances this book contained a lot of angst as a result of the lack of communication and things not said. The story was typical of an arranged marriage that turns out okay for everyone involved. The narrator leaves a lot to be desired with pauses in strange places and serious hesitation in the male voices.

angsty

I usually am not interested in historical type romances but listened to this one for an audiobook challenge category. I found it surprisingly good! Since this was book 1 of 3 in the series and the characters are intertwined, I may have to keep going to see how it all turns out.

Surprisingly good!

A smartly written, sexy romp, in the Tudor court. The historical time is well written..King Henry VII especially... what an evil tyrant!. The trial of Anne Boleyn is playing out in the background and directly impacts the main narrative. Wolf and Eloise are both likeable characters who continuously misinterpret each others feelings and actions...... Great secondary characters too. Definitely listening to the next one in the trilogy. They liken this to Fifty Shades but it is better written (IMO) and way more steamy! The narrator does take some time to get use too, but she grows on you.

Better and more than I expected!

struggled to finish it. I don't mind a little smut with my historical fiction but there was barely any fiction. just smut. lacked intelligence and plot.

Barely a story

Although I am not a reader not the 15th century category in romance, I tried this book because of audibles challenge to try one book from each sub category from the romance package. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with this book and am looking forward to reading the next in this series. The narration of this book was well done. The men’s voices were a little off, but the enthusiasm in the story definitely makes up for it. The story had a solid background to go with it and the angst in it was well written. I think I would recommend this to my friends even if they aren’t too fond of this category either.

I listened to this as the audible Romance challenge and found it to be a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. Through this story I was just amazed (not in a good way) at how submissive women had to be. Just the fact that women were sold to men by their fathers and made to marry who was chosen for them astonished me. I liked the way the story ended because it actually became a marriage of love rather than of convenience. I liked it enough to start the next book

I listened to this for the Audible Romance Category challenge and I enjoyed it. It was a little slow but once it picked up I really enjoyed it. The characters were a little too much drama for me but once they finally figure things out they were sweet and sexy. I enjoyed the ending enough to go straight to book 2 because I wanted to know Susannah's story.

The narration was ok. I didn't love her male voice but it didn't ruin the story for me and by the end I forgot all about not liking it.
