3.5 historical 🌟

The story is good. It has intrigue, romance, and a little humor. There is spice, but it's not a lot. I struggled with the narrator at first, but I got used to her. I enjoyed it.

You don’t have to wait long to get an inkling of how their relationship will go.

I enjoyed the charachters and their development - also uber glad for the lack of leaning on the ‘miscommunication’ trope.

The reading really sold it

If I read this myself I don't think I would of enjoyed it as much as I did, the voices and reading really sold the story and it was a enjoyable experience

I liked it!

NARRATION: Okay, I don’t know if Heather Wilds is Carmen Rose or Carmen Rose is Heather Wilds, but I’m convinced: there’s no way these two narrators are not the same person. They have the same voice and the same tonal arc which is repetitive and slightly apathetic sounding. To her credit, she does a better job with the acting of the actual characters than she does with the narration. But her style is still a bit grating, and definitely unmistakable.

I enjoyed the book a lot! I thought it well contrived and developed. I genuinely liked the characters and appreciated that Alice Coldbreath even took the time to redeem some of the characters that she could have easily left as antagonists. I generally don’t enjoy the "jealous guy" angle, but Coldbreath did a good job of not taking it over the line. It was just enough to show Nye cared about her and was struggling with unfamiliar feelings and situations. Definitely recommend!

Unique story- well done romance

Unique story out of the normal lane of regency romance. I don’t care for couples arguing and making love, angry sex. However- they are so different, thrown together In difficult circumstances and finding their way to each other. The story works and the romance progresses with some unforeseen twists. They are allowed to adapt, and grow together. There are good support characters,, over all an enjoyable listen.

One of my new favorites!

I love historical romances but I get tired of the same heroes and heroines, all aristocratic and wealthy. It is such a refreshing change to read a truly compelling romance involving characters from a different walk of life. Nye treads the line of unlikability with his jealous tirades and temper but Mina is more than a match for him and you feel like they are real people who against all odds ended up with someone perfect for them. Great read!
