Story
Five days ago, the epidemic of rage began. Four days ago, the rash of senseless murders swept the nation. Three days ago, the president addressed the country and begged for peace—even as the murders increased tenfold. Two days ago, the killers began to mobilize. One day ago, the power went out. And tonight, the killers are reading the names of those to be killed over the Emergency Broadcast System.

Not my usual style but I liked this one. It moved along, the characters were interesting, and the situation suitably psychotic.

Story
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

I liked it.

I got hooked early and could hardly stop listening until the end. It's been a while since I've enjoyed a book this much. The story is good, and interesting, but Lucy really made the book for me and January Lavoy was amazing at bringing her and others around her to life. The break-ins of the Podcast added to the ingenuity of the story and Will Damron's was perfect as the voice of Ben Owens.

Story
In retreat from a devastating loss and crushing injustice, Katie lives alone in a fortresslike stone house on Jacob’s Ladder island. Once a rising star in the art world, she finds refuge in her painting. The neighboring island of Ringrock houses a secret: a government research facility. And now two agents have arrived on Jacob’s Ladder in search of someone—or something—they refuse to identify. Although an air of menace hangs over these men, an infinitely greater threat has arrived, one so strange even the island animals are in a state of high alarm.

Not his best effort
Reviewed: 02-07-23
Dean Koontz seems to be a bit all over the place lately. This story had some good moments and likeable, if not a little too good, characters. But, the main protagonist of the story seems to be a bit of an afterthought. It comes it does bad things it's killed. Then the rest of the story is about the woman and the girl fleeing the big bad government men and bonding. To me the main point of the story was to make a statement about the world becoming so bad and what the author thinks needs to be done to change that. Having said that I finished it and there some good moments that kept me in it.

Ok it's not perfect...

... but it's got a decent story, interesting enough characters and I liked it. I didn't love it, but it was good enough that I stayed interested until the end. I did think the end was pretty obvious but that was ok. I don't know if I would want a series of this, but I'd come back to this author for another try.

Doesn't live up to the hype

The story is ok but I guess because it was King I kept expecting something to happen but in the end the story was pretty generic. Hitman shoots target gets screwed goes after the guys who screwed him. Saves girl girl helps him. The bad guys were bad the good guys were good/bad depending on how you looked at them. Took a couple of swipes at Trump. The writing of the book by Billy seemed more about shoring up all of the waiting around he did especially since noone was ever going to read it. In some ways the book Billy wrote was more interesting than the book King wrote. Yeah I know but you know what I mean. The toss in of the Overlook Hotel seemed more like a gimmick than anything else. Anyway, all in all not his best work. I made it all the way through but that thing I was expecting never happened so all I got was a story that any decent mystery/suspense writer could have put out. Just my 2cents.

Disappointed
Reviewed: 01-10-21
Lincoln and Child have written some great stories together. The pairing of D'Agosta and Pendergast in Relic and Reliquary were part of what made those stories so great. But, this was a predictable and lackluster story that didn't put this pairing to good use. The plot of this story is one that has been done many times over and nothing truly new or interesting was added here. It is such a shame. Relic and Reliquary are two of my all time favorite books and I'm so disappointed that the quality of writing has fallen so far for these two brilliant authors.

Story
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

A Great addition to the series
Reviewed: 07-13-20
This book had me from the beginning. The opening sequence got me interested but, the banter between Mike and Reggie really hooked me. I knew right away I was going to like this main character and that is always a big plus for any story. The big secret behind what was going wrong with the project was a bit obvious but I didn't feel like the author was trying to keep it a secret .I think he was just holding out on introducing it until the right time in the story. There was plenty of action and cool ideas to keep me interested and if the science isn't completely accurate well it IS called Science FICTION. If you haven't read "14", the first book in this series, I definitely recommend that you do. Not only is it a great read but it adds another dimension to "The Fold" as elements from it show up in this story as well. I feel that you miss something substantial if you choose to read this as a stand alone. Ray Porter gives a great performance. My only issue is that his portrayal of female voices could use some work. Anyway, that's my two cents.

Story
She used to work for the US government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning. Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

Great Premise Great Story
Reviewed: 07-11-20
The idea of the Chemist was what drew me in to this and the parts that covered her field were very interesting. The main characters were likable and interesting. I did find the romance a bit unbelievable and outright sappy in parts. However, the action and the main storyline were strong enough to carry it through. The introduction of the trained dogs was especially cool and really elevated that part of the story. I do wish there would have been a little more focus on the tradecraft of Alex. The performance by Ellen Archer was excellent, clear, concise and easy to listen to. Overall a great read I would definitely recommend it.

Story
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Clever story with only a couple of flaws
Reviewed: 07-07-20
The build up in the story is terrific and really hooked me in and although I wasn't expecting the explanation to be what it was I accepted it and continued on. The ending, however, was not as powerful as I had hoped and although there is some excitement to it I just didn't feel it the way I did the rest of the book. People have made reference to not caring for the Scooby references, but I thought they were fine and even a little funny in the right places. I thought the character of Mandy was completely unnecessary to the story as she played no integral part that I could tell. The performance was very good I thought most of the voices were great and the reader was easy to listen to. All in all I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others. It's fun and kept me interested until the end.

Story
When Pentagon bioterror operative Roberto Diaz was sent to investigate a suspected biochemical attack, he found something far worse: a highly mutative organism capable of extinction-level destruction. He contained it and buried it in cold storage deep beneath a little-used military repository. Now, after decades of festering in a forgotten sub-basement, the specimen has found its way out and is on a lethal feeding frenzy. Only Diaz knows how to stop it.

I liked the idea of this story. Something that is a concern for us in the real world. The characters were fun, although, the profanity was a little over the top even for me. The Narrator did a great job with most of the voices. The only one I felt he struggled with were the bikers voices which came off in a way that just didn't feel real to me. overall this is an interesting fun read with some action and some gross moments to keep you listening until the end
