About this listen

"On every level, Cold Storage is pure, unadulterated entertainment." (Douglas Preston, The New York Times)

For listeners of Andy Weir and Noah Hawley comes an astonishing debut by the screenwriter of Jurassic Park: a wild and terrifying adventure about three strangers who must work together to contain a highly contagious, deadly organism

When Pentagon bioterror operative Roberto Diaz was sent to investigate a suspected biochemical attack, he found something far worse: a highly mutative organism capable of extinction-level destruction. He contained it and buried it in cold storage deep beneath a little-used military repository.

Now, after decades of festering in a forgotten sub-basement, the specimen has found its way out and is on a lethal feeding frenzy. Only Diaz knows how to stop it.

He races across the country to help two unwitting security guards - one an ex-con, the other a single mother. Over one harrowing night, the unlikely trio must figure out how to quarantine this horror again. All they have is luck, fearlessness, and a mordant sense of humor.

Will that be enough to save all of humanity?

What a great book. It was either free or a daily deal so I wasn't expecting much.. I am delighted to say the book & narration were bang on.

Surprisingly excellent

I wish I had a better word to say about this book. I have only wrote a few reviews in the last 3 years but this book is AWESOME. Thank you David and Rupert for this amazing read!

Awesome

I really tried to enjoy this book, made to over 2 hours because the concept of the story was awesome. I just could not get past the narrator. I will read the book and return the audiobook.

Great concept of a story, but poorly performed

Great story and very well read. Had my attention from the beginning. The narrator was great. When the characters change, you know who is speaking. Great read.

Very well read. Kept my interest from the start.

When I first heard the buzz about this book, I listened to the sample in audible but was put off by narrator... I was wrong!
I had listened to thirty military thrillers prior and was expecting a gravel voiced Sargent but this books is primarily 20somethings so the narrator's voice does fit.
I loved the characters... the lead Male has that annoying "I cant shut up" speech pattern that would make your ear itch. If you loved Andromeda Strain this is a book for you.

Great book... great narration

This was utterly delightful, silly fun and I laughed out loud several times (in a good way). Rupert Friend does a stellar job voicing the various characters and semi-sentient fungus. A great palate cleanser in book form.

Silly fun

I wasn't sure about the narration at first, but quickly realized it was perfect for the characters in this story. I felt like the story was about developing the characters, rather than the characters enhancing the story. The characters were interesting and entertaining as was the story. My expectations were low based on some of the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. I strongly recommend giving this book a listen.

A little different, but I liked it

I liked the idea of this story. Something that is a concern for us in the real world. The characters were fun, although, the profanity was a little over the top even for me. The Narrator did a great job with most of the voices. The only one I felt he struggled with were the bikers voices which came off in a way that just didn't feel real to me. overall this is an interesting fun read with some action and some gross moments to keep you listening until the end

Fun and Interesting story

The first listen was "Okay, pretty good, interesting...narration, questionable but okay" . Second listen was "How did I miss that the first time? This is better than I first thought. The narration is actually perfect for the different characters.". The third listen was " This is actually awesome. I love how what seems at first glance to be extraneous background information is brought into focus on the building of the story and the characters, making their decisions and actions likely and logical. " And, the narrator continued to grow on me. He is quite excellent at bringing the different characters to life. His voice for Teacake is perfect in my opinion. And, finally, I may never look at a snow globe the same. It was a nice touch.

Still love it after listening 3 times

From start to finish this book was one of the few horror books that gave off such a sense of dread. The narrator Rupert Friend gave the characters so much life, especially compared to other narrators. If the story of Cold Storage wasn’t enough to give off a sense of dread than well... Friend definitely helped to instill it all on his own. Reminiscent of Nick Cutters “The Troop” this book gave me the same sense of dread and anticipation that left it insanely difficult to put down. I started reading the book around 8pm and stayed up well past decent hours in order to finish it. A must buy!

Couldn’t put this one down!
