About this listen

A darkly humorous, surprisingly poignant, and utterly gripping debut novel about a guy who works in Hell (literally) and is on the cusp of a big promotion if only he can get one more member of the wealthy Harrison family to sell their soul.

Peyote Trip has a pretty good gig in the deals department on the fifth floor of Hell. Sure, none of the pens work, the coffee machine has been out of order for a century, and the only drink on offer is Jägermeister, but Pey has a plan—and all he needs is one last member of the Harrison family to sell their soul.

When the Harrisons retreat to the family lake house for the summer, with their daughter Mickey’s precocious new friend, Ruth, in tow, the opportunity Pey has waited a millennium for might finally be in his grasp. And with the help of his charismatic coworker Calamity, he sets a plan in motion.

But things aren’t always as they seem, on Earth or in Hell. And as old secrets and new dangers scrape away at the Harrisons’ shiny surface, revealing the darkness beneath, everyone must face the consequences of their choices.

This is the second book I haven’t been able to finish because of this woman. She’s so, so whiny. Also, the dramatic intake of breath following the end of clauses/sentences is absolutely ridiculous. People need to stop hiring her to read their books unless said books are the equivalent of Sex and the City of Gossip Girl or Fifty Shades.

The Woman Narrator Is Incredibly Annoying

Loved the different stories in this book. The narration was nice, it made it to be an interesting listen.

Wonderful listen

This book was a fresh take on society’s ideas of hell and all its accessories. I devoured this story in under a day. I also love the narrators, they really did the story justice

Loved this take on things

This book was so creative and clever and funny on the surface. As you progress through, it becomes more poignant and sharp. The culmination of events was bittersweet and beautiful. It's def in my rotation for re-listening.

A must-listen

This book surprised me, I read around 100 books a year and not often do I finish a book and think " wow, I am sad I can not read this again for the first time." It is a wild ride, that had it not been written so perfectly it could have been a mess. This author knows how to tell a complicated dark story with humor, grace and elegance. She is very talented, I was shocked that this is her debut novel. You will have a Book Hangover. It is a wild ride and dark but also funny. Her characters are clear and written so realistically that you know what part of the story your in as it goes thru time. Just buy it. Just read but be prepared you will still be thinking about it long after you have finished it.

Hand me a water, I have a Book Hangover.

Wow! This book surprised me with how great it was. I’ll be honest, the middle was a little chaotic, but it wrapped up nicely in the end and definitely makes you think! Loved it!

Amazing story and narration!

This is a very well written story. I've never heard one quite like it.

Unique story of good and evil

Very original storyline, but could have been MUCH better. Oftentimes difficult to follow. Very slow character development. Narrators were very good, but I've read many books that better kept my attention, and were more satisfying.

Interesting & Different ...... But

I did not see this one cunning. I've had a 3 book streak of crap and this came out of nowhere, and it is fantastic! I'm not one to give full reports, so I'll just say this - give yourself a break and enjoy a listen that doesn't fit into any one category. It's simply awesome.

wow!

The book alone was amazing, but with the two different narrators it puts a whole different feel.

Eerie tone, but amazingly put together
