Story
Arthur lives with his father, a fallen but proud former noble, in Border Village #49, along with the other good folks condemned to toil in service to the Baron. But Arthur has an edge: a stolen heart card that secretly fell into his possession, thanks to a dragon. It’s a priceless source of power for the Baron and the tyrant will kill to get it back. Invaluable, too, to a young man of spellcasting ambitions.

Fantastic story and Luke’s narration brings it vividly to life. Characters you’ll be rooting for and villains you’ll be rooting against. I’ll most certainly be getting my hands or ears on all the books in this series.

What just happened?
Reviewed: 03-04-20
I’ve read the books before and listening to the audiobooks have been a treat until this book. Laural, what happened? How did you suddenly forget how to pronounce names you pronounced just fine in the first and second book? Yes, I understand Gaelic names are hard to pronounce, but apart from Siobhan you did a marvelous job in the first and second books. With this one you dropped the ball and it was more than a bit distracting.

One of the best series I’ve read in a long time. Sorry to see it end but the ride was everything I thought it would be. From elation to tears. Rich, colorful characters that will have to cheering or screaming for your favorites and steaming mad at those who would harm them. I hope Mr. Brett gives us a follow up. Maybe 18 years after when the kids are all grown up.

How to tell if a book is a good read?
Reviewed: 09-09-16
When you're so disgusted that you throw your phone into a corner because of certain turns, only to pick it back up seconds later to continue the story. Kristoff has done it again in this second installment of The Lotus War. It might sound contrite but.....I laughed, I screamed, I cried and at the end scrambled for the next installment. You will too.
