About this listen

Nevernight is the first in an epic new fantasy series from New York Times best-selling author Jay Kristoff.

In a land where three suns almost never set, a fledgling killer joins a school of assassins, seeking vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family.

Daughter of an executed traitor, Mia Corvere is barely able to escape her father's failed rebellion with her life. Alone and friendless, she hides in a city built from the bones of a dead god, hunted by the Senate and her father's former comrades. But her gift for speaking with the shadows leads her to the door of a retired killer and a future she never imagined.

Now, 16-year-old Mia is apprenticed to the deadliest flock of assassins in the entire Republic - the Red Church. Treachery and trials await her within the Church's halls, and to fail is to die. But if she survives to initiation, Mia will be inducted among the chosen of the Lady of Blessed Murder and be one step closer to the only thing she desires: revenge.

great listen

I truly enjoyed the story, a little bit of wasted time and a bit of a squirrel hunt on the very graphic love scenes

Good, but quiet

Far too quiet when the shadows speak, couldn't make out what they were saying most of the time. And the tangents at the beginning of the book that filled 3 to 15 minutes of useless information each could of been done without. I understand it's world building, but the story's flow is completely broken by them when they happen.

awesomeness wrapped in dark enigma!

Loved this story; such fresh lyrical language, such dark twistings that leave the reader speechless, unable to stop reading to the very end! Beware reader, dark matter, death, betrayal, revenge, and bloody battles will ensue...do you dare take this journey?

I loved it

I truly enjoyed the whole thing! The narrator did an amazing job, the descriptions were enchanting and the story was interesting. Don't get me wrong revenge tales and assassins are a dime a dozen for books so the idea is not unique. That isn't the charm of the book, it isn't built around an interesting premise or gimmick. The thing that is good about the book is the way the world feels lived in, the characters feel genuine and interesting.
When I read or listen to books a big thing to me is the characters need to be interesting, I want to feel they are real and their reactions make sense based on their previous actions. This one does that well, Mia is Mia start to finish. She grows as a character but she never jumps shark.

Solid But Doesn't Separate From the Pack

Where does Nevernight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

While it doesn't compare to the best books I've heard, it is a good audiobook in its own right.

If you’ve listened to books by Jay Kristoff before, how does this one compare?

This is my first book of his.

What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like?

The narrator has tremendous range and gives a wide cast of characters distinct voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Without spoiling too much, a character I found to be compelling meets a strange and anticlimactic fate near the end of the novel,

Any additional comments?

The book features an interesting main character and some fantastic world building. The plot probably won't surprise you but succeeds well enough to set up a promising series.

Oh! Pale Daughter Death and Destruction!

This book is not everyone. There is massive amounts of dead characters! Imagine Hunger Games meeting Divergent bathed in the blood of Carrie on prom night and you might understand a bit about this book!
Mr. Friendly is epic but it’s the narrator that makes this book so pleasurable!!!!

READ IT NOW! That is if you aren’t too faint of heart!

Surprisingly Excellent

I initially wasn't grabbed as the writing was somewhat different than I'm used to. However, the author's style quickly caught on and worked well to describe and explain the world they built. As for the narrator? Top notch performance.

So Worth It my gentle friends

I decided to give The Nevernight Chronicles a try, I wasn't sure what to expect…..but it was everything and more.

The storyline was incredible,

The Crow is out to avenge her Family that were murdered. Her mentor and Father figure Mercurio helps her on the journey to become an assassin, which leads her to the Red Church. In the Red Church she learns to become the killing machine that she is, but also struggles with inter turmoil. She is what you call a "Darken" she has the ability to have Daemons ride her shadow. The Daemon that rides her shadow is "Mr. Kindly". I enjoyed Mr. Kindly.
The characters in her story Tric, Ash all have a story but it is through Mia's, AKA: The Crow or Pale Daughter that it is told.

I completely fell in love with Tric and I was disappointed with the end of Book 1
I didn't really like Ash. I really tried to like her in Book 2 and Book 3. I listened to it again to see if it would change my opinion of her and it didn't. I basically ended up hating her more.
The "racy" parts with Mia and Tric were quite interesting.

I don't want to give to much away. It is worth the read and also worth getting the Audiobook.

My only complaint with the Narrator Holter Graham, he would get the voices wrong for the character, in terms of transition. It was annoying.

Overall it was worth it!

Dark and beautiful

I got totally engrossed in this book. Dark fantasy is not my usual genre. The narrator pulled me in making me not want to put the book down.
